WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT IN, 3-0, WIN OVER LASELL
Anchorwomen Earn 12th Shutout Win of Season

Providence, RI—
The Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team blanked Lasell,
3-0, at The Murray Center on Tuesday evening. RIC improves to 14-9
overall, while the Lasers fall to 5-15. The Anchorwomen have won
their last four matches and five of their last six, while Lasell
drops its third straight contest. |

Head Coach
Luis Carvalho’s team has been dominant as of late, as the
Anchorwomen picked up their fifth straight shutout win and their 12th
of the season. |
|
|
|
The
Anchorwomen were firing on all cylinders, taking game one (30-17),
game two (30-22) and game three (30-17). RIC closed out the third
and final game on a 19-3 run. Senior middle blocker Kimiyo Garcia
(Riverside, RI) and freshman hitter Tess Heidel (Warwick, RI),
the Little East Offensive and Rookie of the Week, respectively, each
posted a team-high 14 kills. Sophomore hitter Kristen Johnson
(East Providence, RI) logged 10 kills, with only one error, in
18 attempts. Sophomore outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry,
RI) and sophomore libero Jackie Gervais (Woonsocket, RI)
led the squad with nine digs apiece. Senior setter Amy Souza
(Tiverton, RI) handed out a team-high 24 assists. |

Lasell junior
middle hitter Kelsey Schmidt (Ballston Spa, NY) led the
Lasers with seven kills, while sophomore Amanda Major (Southbury,
CT) recorded a match-high 11 digs. |
|
|
|
In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Rhode Island
Invitational, along with Salve Regina and Roger Williams at Johnson
& Wales on Sunday, Oct. 14 beginning at noon. Lasell will host
Eastern Nazarene on Thursday, Oct. 11. |
