STATE CAPTURES LEC REGULAR SEASON TITLE IN SWEEP OF RHODE ISLAND
COLLEGE
Garcia’s 11 Kills Not Enough as RIC Falls to 2-2 in the LEC

Providence, RI—Keene
State College captured the 2007 Little East Conference Women’s
Volleyball Regular Season Championship in a 3-0 win over Rhode
Island College Saturday morning at The Murray Center. The Owls
improve their record to 19-10 overall and keep their league record
unblemished with a perfect 6-0 mark. KSC will receive a bye in the
upcoming LEC Tournament and host the semifinals and finals on Nov.

The
Anchorwomen see their record to fall to 15-13 overall and 2-2 in LEC
action. |

|
Rhode Island
College jumped out to a 9-2 lead in game one, before Keene State
climbed back into the frame and held off the Anchorwomen at the end,
30-28. The Owls won game two, 30-24, before decisively taking the
match in a game three, 30-16, win. |

|
Keene State
sophomore Carly Newton (Centerville, MA) and junior
Brittany O’Bryant (Merrimack, NH) led the team with 14 and 10
kills, respectively, from the middle blocker position. Sophomore
setter Jordan Pokryfki (Wasilla, AK) posted a match-high 32
assists, while senior outside hitter Kelly Yankowski (Turners
Falls, MA) logged a match-high 24 digs. |

Rhode Island
College senior middle blocker Kimiyo Garcia (Riverside, RI)
led the Anchorwomen with 11 kills and eight digs. Freshman setter
Nicole Enos (Coventry, RI) logged 15 assists and six digs. |

|
In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will host Connecticut College on
Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. It will be Senior Night as Garcia,
along with hitter Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI), and
setters Amy Souza (Tiverton, RI) and Jeanne Rosa (Milford,
CT), will be honored with their families prior to the start of
the match. Keene State will take part in the Bridgewater State
Invitational on Friday, Oct. 26. |
