Anchorwomen Win Three Flights as RIC
Places
Second at the 2007 Little East Conference
Women’s Tennis Championships |

Providence, RI –Rhode
Island College placed second with 16.0 points at the 2007 Little
East Conference Women’s Tennis Championships, hosted by RIC, on Oct.
20-21. Bridgewater State won the title with 20.0 points, capturing
four singles and one doubles championship. |
|
|
|
It is the
second consecutive season that the Anchorwomen, who shared the
league regular season championship with Bridgewater State and UMass
Dartmouth, have finished in second at the LEC Championships. Rhode
Island College captured one singles championship and two doubles
titles. |
|
|
|
The
top-seeded tandem of junior Meg Funk (Oakdale, CT) and senior
Sasha Doonan Rodriguez (Pawtucket, RI) defeated the
second-seeded pair of UMass Boston senior Aurora Lormeus (Milton,
MA) and sophomore Emily Johnson (Saugus, MA), 9-8 (2), to
capture their second consecutive Little East Championship at No. 1
doubles. They went 3-0 at the tourney. |

Sophomore
Jaclyn Eastman (Mansfield,
MA)
and freshman Brittany LaBarre (Greenville, RI) captured the
Little East Championship at No. 3 doubles, defeating Bridgewater
State seniors Alison Tripp (South Dennis, MA) and Paula
Araujo (Fall River, MA), 8-4. They went 2-0 at the tourney. |

Top-seeded
freshman Liz O’Connell (Harrisville, RI) defeated
second-seeded UMass Dartmouth junior Becky Bullock (Wrentham, MA),
6-1, 6-3, to capture the Little East Championship at No. 3 singles.
She went 3-0 at the tourney. |

|
In other
action at the league championship, third-seeded Funk lost in first
round action of the No. 1 singles flight, but rebounded to win the consolation round. She went
1-1 at the tourney. |

|
|
Doonan
Rodriguez won in the first round, but fell in the semi-finals of the
No. 2 singles flight. She went 1-1 at the tourney. |
|
|
|
Second-seeded
sophomore Julie Bannon (Narragansett, RI) lost in the first
round of the No. 4 singles flight, but rebounded to win the
consolation round. She went 3-1 at the tourney. |

|
|
Second-seeded
Eastman lost in the championship match of the No. 5 singles flight.
She went 2-1 at the tourney. |
|
|
|
Third-seeded
LaBarre won her first round match at No. 6 singles, before falling
to the eventual champion in the semifinals. She went 1-1 at the
tourney. |

Bannon and
O’Connell won their first round match at No. 2 doubles, before
falling in the quarterfinals. They went 1-1 at the tourney. |
