Camels Sweep Anchorwomen, 3-0
RIC Can’t Send Seniors Out With Win
|

Providence, RI—The
Connecticut College women’s volleyball team swept Rhode Island
College, 3-0, this evening to spoil Senior Night at The Murray
Center. The Camels improve to 17-6 on the campaign, while the
Anchorwomen slip to 15-14. |
|
|
|
Prior to the
start of this evening’s match, Rhode Island College honored its four
seniors: middle blocker Kimiyo Garcia (Riverside, RI),
outside hitter Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI), and setters
Amy Souza (Tiverton, RI) and Jeanne Rosa (Milford, CT) as
part of Senior Night. The visitors quickly took the momentum away
from the hosts, registering a 30-22 victory in game one.

Connecticut
College eased to a 30-17 win in game two before holding on to a
nip-and-tuck affair in the finale, 30-28. |

|
The Camels
were paced offensively by junior outside hitter Caitlin Tomaska
(Solana Beach, CA) and sophomore middle blocker Meg Christman
(Wilmington, DE) with 10 and nine kills, respectively. Classmate
Jenna Tjossem (Vail, CO) fueled the attack with a game-high
36 assists. Tomaska posted a team-high 11 digs, while Christman
redirected two Anchorwomen shots. |

Garcia led
the Anchorwomen with 11 kills and nine digs. Souza logged 10 assists
and six digs. Sophomore outside hitter Sharon Corriveau
(Coventry, RI) led the team with 10 digs. |

|
|
In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College travels to UMass Boston for a Little
East Conference tri-meet with Western Connecticut State University
on Saturday, Oct. 27. The Anchorwomen need to sweep the conference
matches to raise their mark to 4-2 and earn a share of second place
in the standings. RIC will host an undetermined opponent in first
round action of the 2007 Little East Conference Women’s Volleyball
Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. |
