RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE MEN’S GOLF
PLACES FIFTH AT LITTLE EAST/GNAC
ALLIANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS |

Providence, RI –
The Rhode Island College men’s golf team took part in the annual
Little East Conference/Great Northeast Athletic Conference Alliance
Championships, hosted by Johnson & Wales on Friday and Saturday,
Oct. 26-27. |
|
|
|
The Anchormen
placed fifth overall and third among Little East institutions with a
two-day total of 647. The Anchormen compiled a score of 319 on
Friday and 328 on Saturday. RIC was 28 strokes behind first place
Johnson and Wales’ total of 619. |
|
|
|
RIC freshman
Derek Jensen (Cumberland, RI) was the medalist, shooting a
two-day total of 146, which was six over par and two strokes better
than Southern Maine’s Greg Mitchell. Jensen logged a score of
72 in the first round and shot a 74 in the second round. He finished
first among a field of 39 golfers. |

Freshman
Kevin Smith (West Hartford, CT) placed 15th with a
two-day total of 161 (82, 79). Sophomore Barrett Kern (Pawtucket,
RI) tied for 21st overall with score of 167 (80,
87). Sophomore Tim Davis (Rochester, NY) placed 25th
with a score of 173 (85, 88). Freshman Steve Zahn (West Warwick,
RI) placed 26th with a score of 179 (90, 89). |

Head Coach
Greg Gammell’s Anchormen are done for the fall and will resume
action in the spring. |
