ANCHORWOMEN DROP TWO AT
LEC REGULAR SEASON FINALE

Boston,
MA—The
Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team dropped two Little East
matches in the club’s regular season finale at UMass Boston on
Saturday afternoon. The Anchorwomen are currently 15-16 overall and
2-4 in the LEC. RIC, Eastern Connecticut and UMass Boston all tied
for fourth place in the LEC. The fourth-seeded Anchorwomen will host
fifth-seeded Eastern Connecticut in first round action of the 2007
Little East Conference Women’s Volleyball Tournament at The Murray
Center on Tuesday, Oct. 30. |

RIC dropped
its first match of the afternoon to Western Connecticut, with the
Colonials winning, 3-0 (20-24, 30-26, 30-22). Senior middle blocker
Kimiyo Garcia (Riverside, RI) posted 11 kills and 12 digs.
Senior setter Amy Souza (Tiverton, RI) led with 12 assists
and sophomore outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI)
registered a team-high 14 digs. |

The
Anchorwomen took the first two games, but allowed UMass Boston to
win the next three frames and take the match, 3-2 (30-28, 30-24,
25-30, 30-32, 11-15). Senior outside hitter Sherri Heard
(Coventry, RI) led the Anchorwomen with 18 kills, while Garcia
chipped in with 17 kills, 17 digs and four blocks. Souza led the
squad with 25 assists, while freshman middle blocker Erin St.
Jacques (Warwick, RI) logged nine blocks. |
