Eastern Connecticut Advances to Semifinals

RI—Fifth-seeded
Eastern Connecticut State University downed
fourth-seeded Rhode Island College, 3-2, in quarterfinal action of
the 2007 Little East Conference Women’s Volleyball Tournament at The
Murray Center on Tuesday evening. The Warriors advance to face
top-seeded Keene State in semifinal action on Friday, Nov. 2. |

Both teams
were struggling coming into the match, with the Anchorwomen riding a
six-match losing streak and the Warriors earning just two wins over
their last 15 contests. |
|
|
|
ECSU opened
the match with a decisive, 30-20, win in game one. The Anchorwomen
rebounded to take game two, 30-27, and despite serving with game
point in game three, fell, 32-30. Rhode Island College bounced back
to force a fifth and deciding contest with a 30-28 victory in game
four. The Warriors jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back
in the final frame, winning, 15-10. |

Sophomore
outside hitter Ashley Tuggle (South Windsor, CT) led Eastern
Connecticut with a team-high 15 kills. Junior middle blocker Alex
Silvestros (North Branford, CT) and junior outside hitter
Sandra Jaques (Milford, CT) chipped in with 11 kills apiece,
while sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Odell (Dover Plains, NY)
rounded out the Warrior contingent in double digits with 10 winners. |

Senior setter
Priscilla Dougherty (Island Park, NY) handed out a match-high
44 assists, while sophomore libero Lauren Odell (Dover Plains,
NY) and Jaques recorded 22 digs apiece. |

|
|
Rhode Island
College senior middle blocker Kimiyo Garcia (Riverside, RI)
led all players with 28 kills, while senior outside hitter Sherri
Heard (Coventry, RI) contributed 18 winners. Garcia also logged
19 digs, eight blocks and four service aces to pace the Anchorwomen
attack |

the Warriors raise their mark to 9-26. |
