Providence, RI—Rhode Island College
outscored Salem State, 26-5, in a doubleheader sweep over Salem
State on Saturday afternoon at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex.
The Anchorwomen decided both contests in just five innings, taking
game one, 12-4, and the second tilt, 14-1. RIC has won its last five

After falling behind, 1-0, in the first game, RIC exploded for nine
runs in the bottom of the first off of Salem State junior pitcher
Katelyn Doherty (Lynnfield, MA). Rhode Island College freshman
third baseman Kayla Jandreau (Plainville, CT) keyed the rally
with two, two-RBI triples in the frame. The Vikings tried to prolong
the contest with a run in the top half of the fifth, but sophomore
right fielder Michelle Perrin (Saugus, MA) ended the game
early with a one-out RBI single. Sophomore starting pitcher Jenna
Deveines (Lowville, NY) improved to 5-2, allowing just two
earned runs, while striking out three. Doherty took the loss (2-2),
surrendering 12 runs, nine of which were earned, on 11 hits in 4.1
innings. RIC freshman left fielder Amanda Perry (New Bedford, MA)
bashed her first collegiate home run (1), with a two-run blast in
the second. |

Anchorwomen wasted no time jumping on Salem State’s starting
pitcher, freshman Krystal Coleman (Chelmsford, MA), tagging
her for nine runs in the first two innings of the nightcap. RIC once
again earned the win, 14-1, in just five innings as the offense was
relentless. Jandreau added another two-RBI triple, while freshman
pitcher Melanie Neece (Westfield, MA) earned her fifth (5-1)
win of the season. She held the Vikings scoreless on just three
hits, while striking out four in 4.0 innings of work. |
