RIC BELTS OUT SEASON-HIGH 22 HITS IN, 16-2, VICTORY
Olson Plates Six With Game-High
Four Hits

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College senior
second baseman Pete Olson (North Providence, RI) paced the
Anchormen’s offense with a 4-for-5 performance, which included six
RBI, two runs scored, two doubles and a three-run home run, in the
club’s, 16-2, win over Coast Guard Tuesday afternoon at Anchorman
Field. RIC bashed a season-high 22 hits and fell one run shy of
their 2008-high in the win. |

Rhode Island College (8-4) got the ball rolling with a five-run
first inning and put the game away with nine runs over the next four
frames. Coast Guard (4-8) freshman Jesse Karr (Milan, MI)
(1-1) was tagged for 14 hits and 12 runs, 10 of which were earned,
in 3.1 innings of work. He gave way to classmate Mike Ahlin
(Longview, WA) in the fourth, but the Anchormen knocked in
another four runs on eight hits over the final 4.2 innings. |

The
Anchormen’s pitchers strung together an impressive performance,
which was started by freshman Gary Levesque (East Providence, RI)
who threw the first three frames, allowing just two hits, while
striking out five. He gave way to the eventual winning pitcher,
senior Eric Thibault (Somerset, MA) (3-1), who hurled three
innings, allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out two. |

Sophomore reliever Paul Vatter (Warwick, RI), who was seeing
his first action of the season, kept the Bears off the scoreboard in
two innings of work in the seventh and eighth frames. Junior closer
Eric Fama (Wappingers Falls, NY) struck out two in a
scoreless ninth. |

|
In
addition to Olson, junior center fielder B.J. Doyon (Douglas, MA)
went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, two RBI, a double and a walk.
Junior right fielder Chris O’Connors (North Kingstown, RI)
went 2-for-5 with one run scored, three RBI and a two-run homer (1)
in the first. Sophomore left fielder Jared Rossi (Johnston, RI)
turned in a 2-for-4 performance with three runs scored and a
solo dinger (1). |

Bears’ junior designated hitter Brian Yurovich (Marlboro, MA)
went 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. |
|
|
|
In
upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Salem State on
Thursday, Mar. 27. |
