ANCHORMEN DEFEAT SALVE REGINA,
17-5
RIC Improves to 3-2 on
Current Homestand

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College senior
second baseman Pete Olson (North Providence, RI) and junior
shortstop Josh Cardoso (Dartmouth, MA) provided the offense
in the Anchormen’s, 17-5, victory over Salve Regina Wednesday
afternoon at Anchorman Field. |

|
Rhode Island College (15-7) scored 17 runs on 11 hits, capitalizing
on seven Seahawk errors. RIC junior starting pitcher Jeff Costa
(Pawtucket, RI), normally a third baseman, earned his first
(1-1) win of the season, throwing 5.0 innings, allowing four runs on
six hits, while striking out two. |

The Anchormen spotted Salve Regina (12-12-1) at 2-0
lead in the top of the first, before taking a 3-2 lead in the home
half of the frame on a Cardoso three-run, bases-clearing double. |

|
The Seahawks tied the contest, 3-3, in the second
inning before RIC plated eight unanswered runs, which included seven
in the third, to put the game away. |
|
|
|
Olson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a double.
Cardoso also notched a 2-for-4 performance with three RBI and a
double. Junior Bryan Colombero (Skillman, NJ) scored a
game-high four runs, while classmate catcher Jordan Amorin
(Swansea, MA) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. |

Sophomore reliever Paul Vatter (Warwick, RI)
came on in the sixth for two frames of work, while sophomore Eric
Gelsomino (Johnston, RI) and classmate Bobby Venditto
(Cranston, RI) hurled scoreless eighth and ninth innings,
respectively. |

Salve Regina freshman starting pitcher Zack Moreau
(Marstons Mills, MA) took the loss (1-3), allowing five earned
runs on two hits and six walks in just two frames of work. Junior
designated hitter Will Pearce (New Fairfield, CT) went
4-for-5 with an RBI and two doubles. |

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host
Newbury tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. |
