Choice Gives Anchormen
Eighth Straight Win

Milton, MA—Rhode
Island College senior second baseman Pete Olson (North
Providence, RI) plated freshman catcher Franklin Salcedo
(Providence, RI) with an RBI fielder’s choice in the top of the
sixth inning to lead the Anchormen past Curry, 3-2, on Wednesday
afternoon. |

RIC (21-7)
wins its eighth straight game and has two days off to prepare for a
showdown with Little East Conference rival Eastern Connecticut on
Saturday afternoon. |

|
The Anchormen came back from a
1-0 deficit in the top of the fifth as junior designated hitter
Jeff Costa (Pawtucket, RI) scored on an error and junior third
baseman Bryan Colombero (Skillman, NJ) crossed home plate on
a passed ball. |

|
|
The Colonels
tied the game up, 2-2, in the bottom of the frame prior to Olson’s
RBI. Rhode Island College used six pitchers in the game with
sophomore Paul Vatter (Warwick, RI) picking up his third win
(3-0) in two innings of relief. Junior closer Eric Fama
(Wappingers Falls, NY) earned his seventh save, hurling a
scoreless ninth with two strikeouts. |
