RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE MEN’S
OUTDOOR
TRACK AND FIELD PLACES EIGHTH
AT ALLIANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
|

|
Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College placed eighth overall (12 teams) at the 2008 Little
East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Outdoor Men’s Track and Field
Championships with a team score of 52.0 The Anchormen placed fourth
(six teams) among Little East Conference institutions with a score
of 77.0. |

Westfield State won the Alliance with a score of 145,
while Southern Maine captured the Little East title with a score of
194. |
|
|
|
Junior Dante Lopardo (Johnston, RI) was the
Alliance/Little East champion in the high jump, placing first with a
leap of 1.98 meters. He also earned All-Alliance/Little East honors
in the long and triple jump, placing fourth with efforts of 6.27 and
12.71 meters, respectively. |

Senior Mike Van Gieson (Foster, RI) was the
Alliance/Little East champion in the 800 meters, placing first with
a time of 1:56.68. |

Freshman Mike Macedo (North Scituate, RI)
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 10,000 meters, placing
fifth with a time of 33:36.14. |

All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 1,500 meters, placing fifth
with a time of 4:07.44. |

All-Alliance/Little East honors in the long jump, placing sixth with
a 6.14-meter effort. |

All-Alliance/Little East honors in the discus, placing seventh and
eighth, respectively with efforts of 36.66 and 36.62 meters. |

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete
at the New England Div. III Championships, hosted by Coast Guard on
Friday and Saturday, May 2-3. |
