RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE WOMEN’S
OUTDOOR
TRACK AND FIELD PLACES FIFTH
AT ALLIANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College placed fifth overall (12 teams) at the 2008 Little
East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Outdoor Women’s Track and Field
Championships with a team score of 82.5 The Anchorwomen placed
fourth (six teams) among Little East Conference institutions with a
score of 100.0 |

Southern Maine won both the Alliance and the Little
East with team scores of 174 and 199, respectively. |
|
|
|
Junior Mary Ellen Horsman (Barrington, RI) was
the Alliance/Little East Champion in the hammer, placing first with
a distance of 43.55 meters. |

Sophomore Stephanie Bucci (Smithfield, RI) was
the Alliance/Little East Champion in the discus, placing first with
a distance of 33.92 meters. She also earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in the hammer, placing second with a 41.62-meter effort, and
the shot, placing seventh at 10.16 meters. |

Junior Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, RI) earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in four events. She placed third in
the long jump with a time of 4.77 meters, fourth in the high jump at
1.57 meters and fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:24.24.
Fleming was part of the 4x400 meter relay team, which placed third
with a time of 4:20.25. |

Freshman Kayla DiBlasi (Smithfield, RI) earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 400 and 100 meter hurdles,
placing first and fourth, respectively, with times of 17.08 and
67.26 as well as the 4x400 meter relay, which placed third with a
time of 4:20.25. |

Freshman Jamie Nunes (Lincoln, RI) earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 100 meter hurdles, placing
sixth with a time of 17.43. |

Sophomore Brooke Iby (Dracut, MA) earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in three events. She placed second in
the triple jump with a 10.35-meter effort and eighth in the 400
meters with a time of 63.08. Iby was part of the 4x400 meter relay
team, which placed third with a time of 4:20.25. |

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete
at the New England Div. III Championships, hosted by Coast Guard on
Friday and Saturday, May 2-3. |
