ANCHORMEN PLACE FOUR ON
LITTLE EAST BASEBALL ALL-STAR TEAMS
|

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College had four players named to the annual Little East
Conference Baseball All-Star Teams. |
|
|
|
Junior right fielder Chris O’Connors (North
Kingstown, RI) was named First Team All-Little East. He was a
Second Team selection in 2007 and a First Team honoree, as well as
the league’s Rookie of the Year, in 2006. O’Connors played in 39
games, starting 38 of them, batting .417 (58-for-139) with 34 runs
scored, 17 doubles, three home runs, 34 RBI and three stolen bases.
He owned a .604 slugging percentage, a .512 on-base percentage and a
.966 fielding percentage. O’Connors was second in the Little East in
batting, doubles and on-base percentage. He led RIC in batting, runs
scored, hits and doubles, while ranking second in RBI. |

Junior closer
Eric Fama (Wappingers Fall, NY) was named First Team
All-Little East as a relief pitcher. He was a First Team selection
in 2006 and missed all of 2007 while recuperating from off-season
Tommy John surgery. He appeared in 18 games, posting a 0-2 record
with seven saves, a 2.18 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 20.2 innings of
work. Fama led the league in saves. |

Senior second
baseman Pete Olson (North Providence, RI) was named Second
Team All-Little East. He was a Second Team selection as a sophomore
in 2006 as well. He played in 36 games, starting 33 of them, batting
.361 (53-for-147) with 29 runs scored, 14 doubles, one triple, two
home runs, 31 RBI and two stolen bases. He owned a .510 slugging
percentage, a .394 on-base percentage and a .905 fielding
percentage. Olson was second on the team in batting, hits and
doubles, while ranking third in RBI and sixth in runs scored. |

Senior
pitcher Eric Thibault (Somerset, MA) was named Second Team
All-Little East. Thibault appeared in 11 games, starting 10 of them.
He was 7-2 with a 3.78 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 66.2 innings
pitched. Thibault led the team in wins, starts and innings pitched,
while ranking second in strikeouts. He is Rhode Island College’s
all-time leader in career starts, innings pitched and strikeouts,
while ranking third in wins. |

Head Coach
Jay Grenier’s team finished the 2008 season with a 24-15 overall
record and an 8-6 (fourth place) mark in the Little East Conference. |
