Anchormen Win Season-Opener Over Golden Bears
Hill, Brown & Johnson Contribute to Win |

Middletown, CT—Rhode
Island College opened the 2007-08 season with a 65-56 win over
Western New England at the Wesleyan Tip-Off Tournament on Friday
evening. The Anchormen will advance to face Springfield in the title
game tomorrow afternoon. |

After
trailing, 10-2, at the start, the Anchormen moved out to a 23-14
lead with 10:45 remaining in the first half and never trailed again.
RIC led, 35-20, at the half, but the lead quickly grew to 43-31 on
three-point baskets by sophomore guard Carlos Brown (Lawrence,
MA) and junior guard Cameron Stewart (Newport, RI) and a
bucket by junior forward Kaseem Johnson (New Haven, CT).
The Anchormen kept a double-digit advantage for the majority of
the second stanza, before finishing with a nine-point victory. |

Brown and
junior guard Tirrell Hill (Bronx, NY) led RIC in scoring with
12 points apiece. Johnson was one-point shy of a double-double,
logging a game-high 15 boards to go along with nine points. Stewart
added nine points, two boards, two assists and a steal. Junior
forward Zerimar Ramirez (Pawtucket, RI) contributed seven
points and nine boards in just 14 minutes. |

England’s Asif Abdul-Wadud led all scorers with 15 points,
while posting a team-high nine rebounds and five assists. |
