Anchormen Capture Wesleyan Tip-Off Tourney Title
Brown’s 29 Points Leads RIC to, 71-62, Victory Over Pride |

Middletown, CT—Rhode
Island College captured the Wesleyan Tip-Off Tournament title with a
71-62 victory over Springfield on Saturday afternoon. RIC ups its
record to 2-0, while the Pride fall to 1-1 on the season. |

The
Anchormen went ahead for good, 11-9, 6:30 into the contest and led
by as many as 11 in the first stanza. RIC continued to post a
double-digit lead, 43-31, in the second half with 15:20 left on the
clock. The Pride chipped the deficit down to three points, 50-47,
but the Anchormen finished strong over the last four minutes to take
the victory. |

Sophomore
guard Carlos Brown (Lawrence, MA) led all scorers with 29
points, to go along with three boards, four assists and two steals
in 30 minutes of action. Brown was 10-for-15 from the floor and
7-for-10 from downtown and was named the tournament's MVP. Junior forward Kaseem Johnson (New Haven,
CT) had 14 points, five boards, two assists, three blocks and a
steal. Johnson was an All-Tournament Team selection. Junior guard Cameron Stewart (Newport, RI) logged 12
points, three boards, two assists and two steals. Junior forward
Zerimar Ramirez (Pawtucket, RI) grabbed a team-high seven
boards. |
