Stewart Leads Rhode Island College
Past Div. I Holy Cross, 61-60 |
Worcester, MA—Junior guard Cameron Stewart (Newport, RI)
made a running layup in the lane with seven seconds left in
regulation to lead the Rhode Island College men's basketball team
past Div. I Holy Cross, 61-60, in an exhibition game on Thursday
night at the Hart Center. |
Stewart gave
the Anchormen a one-point advantage, 59-58, by nailing a
three-pointer with 38 seconds left in the game. After two Crusader
free throws gave Holy Cross the lead, 60-59, Stewart put RIC up for
good with the game-winning basket. He was second on the team in
scoring with 15 points, including a 3-for-3 effort from downtown, to
go along with three rebounds. |
Sophomore
guard Carlos Brown (Lawrence, MA) led RIC with 19 points,
three rebounds and five steals. Junior forward Kaseem Johnson
(New Haven, CT) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with
eight points. |
Junior
forward Alex Vander Baan (Uxbridge, MA) led the Crusaders
with 15 points. |
It marks the
second consecutive season that the Anchormen have knocked off a Div.
I opponent in an exhibition tilt. Last season, Head Coach Bob
Walsh's troops downed Iona in preseason action en route to a
27-4 season that culminated by reaching the NCAA Div. III Tournament
Elite Eight. |
