ANCHORMEN EDGED BY FALCONS, 64-62
Brown Nets 15 as RIC Suffers First Loss of Season |

Fitchburg, MA—Rhode Island College saw an
11-point lead evaporate down the stretch as unbeaten Fitchburg State
(4-0) handed the Anchormen (3-1) their first loss of the season,
64-62, on Tuesday evening. |

The Falcons
trailed, 37-26, with a little more than 18 minutes remaining in
regulation, but the lead quickly dissipated for the Anchormen as the
hosts embarked on a 13-2 run over the next four minutes to tie the
game at 39-39. Senior forward Brian Torres (North Dighton, MA)
scored six of his game-high 21 points during the run. Torres
also pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double. |

The
Anchormen regrouped on back-to-back three-pointers by junior guard
Cameron Stewart (Newport, RI) and sophomore guard Carlos
Brown (Lawrence, MA). Brown would finish with a team-high 15
points. |

|
The lead
changed hands once more and was tied at 47-47 with 10:40 remaining
in regulation before Fitchburg went on a 10-0 run over the next
3:30. Junior guard Tirrell Hill (Bronx, NY), who had 14
points, brought the visitors back with three free throws and
a jumper that cut the Falcon lead to 60-56 with 2:05 to play.

After
Stewart drained a pair of free throws to bring RIC within two,
60-58, the visitors missed a Stewart three-pointer and FSC junior
guard Jeff Kozik (Auburn, MA) hit one of two free throws for
a 61-58 FSC cushion with just 22 seconds remaining and senior guard
Matt Collins (Southington, CT) put the game on ice with a
pair of free throws with 5.5 seconds remaining. |

Junior
guard Brian Skiffington (North Adams, MA) was the only other
Falcon in double figures, scoring 11 points with a pair of assists,
while Collins added eight points. |

|
RIC junior forward Zerimar Ramirez (Pawtucket, RI) pulled
down a game-high 14 rebounds, while frontcourt classmate Kaseem
Johnson (New Haven, CT) netted 13 points and grabbed eight
boards. |

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will open the Little East
Conference slate at home against UMass Boston on Saturday, Dec. 1 at
