RIC DOWNS BEACONS TO EARN FIRST LEC WIN
Sherri Heard’s Double-Double Paces Anchorwomen Attack |

Providence, RI--Rhode
Island College won its second consecutive game in a 74-67 win over
UMass Boston in collegiate women’s basketball action Saturday
afternoon at The Murray Center. The Anchorwomen improve to 3-2
overall and 1-0 in the Little East Conference, while the loss drops
the Beacons to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in league play. |

Rhode Island
College senior forward Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI) led the
Anchorwomen with a double-double effort that included 16 points, 10
rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Junior guard Tyla Martin
(Cumberland, RI) led all scorers with 19 points to go along with
four boards, two steals and an assist. Senior point guard Sarah
Coughlin (North Attleboro, MA) netted 13 points and dished out a
game-high five assists. The Anchorwomen used outstanding free throw
shooting, 75 percent (21-for-28) to hold off several Beacon runs. |

UMass Boston
closed the gap between the two clubs within the final 30 seconds of
the first half, putting up six points to head into the break down by
one, 36-35. The Anchorwomen took control in the second half and
built their largest lead of the game, 70-54, on two Heard free
throws with 4:03 left. |

Senior guard
LaKeisha Tucker (Pawtucket, RI) posted a team-high 17 points
to go along with four boards and a steal for UMass Boston. Sophomore
forward Caroline Ashe (West Roxbury, MA) scored 15 points,
which included three treys, in a losing effort. |

In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will host Johnson & Wales on Tuesday,
Dec. 4 at 5:30 p.m. The Beacons will host Emerson on Tuesday, Dec. 4
at 7:30 p.m. |
