ANCHORWOMEN SEE THREE-GAME WINNING STREAK END IN LOSS TO CORSAIRS |
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The
UMass Dartmouth's women's basketball team earned their second
conference victory of the season, as the Corsairs defeated the Rhode
Island College Anchorwomen, 77-62, in the first game of a Little
East Conference doubleheader at the Tripp Athletic Center Tuesday
evening. |
The Corsairs held RIC to only one field goal in the
first 8:53 of the game, allowing them to take a double-digit lead,
14-2, behind a three-pointer from senior guard Ashley Chard
(Burlington, CT) and layups by senior forwards Lisa Satkevich
(Quincy, MA) and Lindsay Marsh (Bristol, CT). |
The Anchorwomen would trim the lead to nine, 26-17,
with 3:34 left in the half on a jumper by sophomore guard Alice
Mullen (Saunderstown, RI) and free throws from freshman guard
Nell Reinwald (Moosup, CT) and senior forward Sherri Heard
(Coventry, RI), but UMass Dartmouth regained the momentum
as senior forward Vicki Andruszkiewicz (Danvers, MA)
sandwiched a deep three-pointer and jumper around senior forward
Joya Davis’ (Alexandria, VA) layup and free throw to go into the
halftime break with a 34-22 advantage. |
The Corsairs forced the Anchorwomen into 18
first-half turnovers, while only committing seven. |
After a Chard layup pushed the lead to 38-22 with
16:20 left in the game. RIC would go on a 14-6 run to cut the
deficit to eight with 12:54 to play. UMass Dartmouth would respond
with a 13-0 run of its own, fueled by layups from Satkevich, Marsh
and freshman forward Tashauna Ashmeade (Hyannis, MA) that
swelled the lead to 57-36 at the 9:05 mark. The Anchorwomen would
get no closer than 12 points the rest of the way as the Corsairs
made 18-of-27 attempts from the foul line down the stretch to seal
the victory. |

UMass Dartmouth had four players in double figures as
Chard logged a game-high 19 points. Marsh scored 12 points,
