Lyons Dominates the Paint in Regular Season Home Finale |

Providence, RI—Junior guard
Cameron Stewart (Newport, RI) scored 15 points on 5-for-5
shooting from the field, which included four three-pointers, as
Rhode Island College downed Western Connecticut, 71-60, in
collegiate men’s basketball action on Tuesday evening at The Murray
Center. |

The Anchormen, who have won six of their last seven
games, raise their record to 19-5 overall and 11-2 in the Little
East Conference. With a win Saturday afternoon at Eastern
Connecticut, RIC can clinch at least a share of the 2008 Little East
Conference Regular Season Championship and secure homecourt
advantage throughout the upcoming tourney. |

WestConn came into tonight’s action one of the
hottest teams in the Little East, having won its last five games.
The Colonials, who fall to 14-9 overall and 6-7 in league action,
had not lost a game since falling to the Anchormen, 90-83, back on
Jan. 29. |

|
Stewart added two rebounds, two assists, two blocks
and two steals to his unblemished shooting performance. Junior
center Wil Lyons (Warwick, RI) was equally dominant down low,
scoring a game-high 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting. He also
contributed six rebounds and two assists. Freshman guard Anthony
Fortes (East Providence, RI) rounded out the host’s contingent
in double figures with a 13-point effort. Junior guard Tirrell
Hill (Bronx, NY) and rookie backcourt mate Antone Gray
(Providence, RI) each handed out four assists, while junior
guard Bobby Bailey (Fall River, MA) turned in another
defensive gem with four steals. |

WestConn’s 60 points was its second lowest offensive
output of the season. Junior guard Dashon Jennings (Bridgeport,
CT), who came into the contest averaging 17.4 points per game
over the past five contests, was held to just one field goal on
1-for-12 shooting and just three points. Sophomore forward
Wilburt Jarrett (Hartford, CT) was a spark off the bench with 12
points and eight rebounds. |
