Anchorwomen Fall in Regular Season Finale
McNamee Leads Four Starters in Double Figures |
|
WILLIMANTIC, Conn.—Junior
guard Michelle McNamee (Cranston, R.I.) led four Rhode Island
College student-athletes in double figures with 17 points, but the
Anchorwomen could not overcome an early first-half deficit to
Eastern Connecticut this afternoon in the Little East Conference
regular season finale, falling 85-67. |

|
Rhode Island College (12-12, 5-9) will travel to
Keene State College (15-10) at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 26 for the
quarterfinal round of the Little East Conference Tournament. The
Anchorwomen and Owls split their season series with each club
protecting their homecourt. |

McNamee paced four Rhode Island College players in
double digits in scoring with 17 points, on 5-for-10 shooting from the field.
Senior forward Sherri Heard (Coventry, R.I.) was just two
points off the pace, while freshman forward Stephanie Noheimer
(Willimantic, Conn.) and sophomore guard Alice Mullen
(Saunderstown, R.I.) chipped in with 13 and 11 points,
respectively. Senior point guard Sarah Coughlin (North Attleboro,
Mass.) turned in another well-rounded performance with nine
points, eight assists, and six steals. |

|
Eastern Connecticut (21-4, 11-3) scored the first
points of the contest—a three-pointer by senior guard Sara
Paradis (Bristol, Conn.)—and never relinquished its advantage to
cruise to the 18-point victory. The Warriors opened their second
double figure advantage just 7 minutes and 36 seconds into
regulation, and carried it throughout the remainder of the contest.

Senior guard Kathy Shaw (Tolland, Conn.) led
four student-athletes in double digits for Eastern Connecticut with
a game-high 23 points. She knocked down eight-of-11 attempts from
the field, including a game-high seven triples. Classmate Bridget
Durette (Seymour, Conn.) registered a double-double, scoring 17
points and pulling in 11 rebounds. Paradis handed out a team-high
five helpers as the hosts won their fifth consecutive game.

The Anchorwomen held a five steal advantage (12-7),
but the Warriors had the edge in shooting percentage (54.4-47.4) and
rebounding (35-25). |
