Fall at Gordon, 2-0

Wenham, MA—The
Rhode Island College men’s soccer team outshot host Gordon College
by a plus-six margin, but was unable to solve senior goalkeeper
Brian Schilling (Goffstown, NH) as the Anchormen fell, 2-0, this
afternoon in non-conference action. |

|
Rhode Island College
(0-3-0) carried the play throughout the match, holding an edge in
shots (18-12) and corner kicks (5-2). The Anchormen peppered the
Fighting Scots’ cage with nine shots in each half, but could not
penetrate the host’s defensive unit. Schilling collected seven saves
to earn his first shutout victory of the season. |

Gordon College (1-0-0) cracked the
scoring column in the 43rd minute, when Archie Reed
scored his first goal of the campaign off an assist from Matt
Horth. The Fighting Scots registered an insurance marker in the
60th minute. |

Freshman goalkeeper Justin
O’Connor (North Kingstown, R.I.) made four saves in a losing
effort (0-2). |
|
|
|
Rhode Island College
returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, when the Anchormen
host cross-city rival Johnson & Wales (0-2-0). |
|
|
|
It is the first time in 15 years that
the Anchormen have opened a season without a win or tie through
their first three contests. |
