RIC Sweeps Colonels, 9-0, in
Women’s Tennis Action

Milton, MA—The
Rhode Island College
women’s tennis team captured all six
singles and each of the three double flights to defeat Curry, 9-0,
in their season-opening match on Thursday afternoon.

Senior Meg Funk (Oakdale, CT)
defeated Kaitlin Ross in straight sets (6-2, 6-0) at No. 1
singles, then teamed up with junior Julie Bannon (Narragansett,
RI) to pick up an 8-6 win at the top doubles spot. |

In other notables, sophomore
Brittany LaBarre (Greenville, RI), who spent ’07 at No. 6
singles, jumped up four spots in the lineup to win a tough bout
(3-6, 6-0, 10-2) at No. 2 singles. |

Senior Ashley St. Amand (West
Warwick, RI) won with a
straight set (6-0, 6-1) victory at No. 5 singles. Sophomore Kim
Field (Barrington, RI), a transfer from Merrimack, won her first
collegiate match with a straight set (6-1, 6-0) victory at No. 4
singles. |
