RI—Junior
Angela Cazzato (Rensselear, NY) scored a pair of goals to
lead the Johnson & Wales University women’s soccer team to a 4-0
victory over intra-state rival Rhode Island College in a
non-conference contest at Pierce Stadium on Thursday afternoon |
|
|
|
Cazzato put Johnson & Wales ahead,
1-0, early when she headed in a cross from senior Brooke
Hutchinson (Hamsted, NH) at the 8:32 mark. The Wildcats had
several opportunities late in the first half and were finally able
to capitalize when freshman Megan Heburn (Remsen, NY) scored
her first collegiate goal, an unassisted tally, at the 43:53 mark.
JWU took the 2-0 lead heading into halftime. |

The Wildcats controlled the action
early in the second half and went ahead 3-0 on Cazzato’s second goal
of the game, this time on a pass from junior Jennifer Paquin
(Attleboro, MA) at the 68:16 mark. Freshman Samantha Reynolds
(Plymouth, MA) capped off the scoring for JWU when she headed in
a corner kick from Hutchinson at 84:23 to give the Wildcats the 4-0
victory. JWU had a 7-3 advantage in shots for the second half and a
16-12 advantage in shots for game. |

Freshman Kory Blythe (Fall River,
MA) made five saves for Johnson & Wales, while sophomore
Maddie Pirri (Bristol, RI) had three stops for RIC. Junior
midfielder Christina Tavana (Middletown, CT) logged a
team-high four shots for the Anchorwomen. |

|
The Wildcats improve to 2-1, while
the Anchorwomen fall to 1-2. |
|
|
|
In upcoming action, RIC will play at
Babson on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. |
