Norton, MA—
Sophomores Melida Alvarez (Saugus, MA) and Emily Hough
(Norwich, VT) tallied two goals apiece, and the
nationally-ranked Wheaton College women's soccer team posted its
third straight shutout with a 6-0 victory over Rhode Island College
on Thursday in Mirrione Stadium. |

The Lyons, who are ranked 13th
nationally and second in New England by the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America (NSCAA), improved to 5-1 while extending
their shutout streak to 337:34 and posting their 14th clean sheet in
the last 17 contests. The Anchorwomen fell to 1-5 on the season. |

Hough tallied twice in a 10:27 span
early in the contest, netting the game-winner for the second
straight contest off junior Lyndsey McManus' (Marshfield, MA)
helper at 12:59 before converting junior Rosie Levy's (Torrance,
CA) pass during the 24th minute. Levy also played a role in the
next marker, dishing a corner kick off to freshman Jessica Gray
(Carver, MA), who buried her first collegiate goal at 36:25. |

Wheaton, which held a 19-1 shot
advantage at halftime and finished with 34 of the game's 37 shots,
received a pair of second-half tallies from Alvarez. The striker
scored at 60:29 from out front off a touch by freshman Kristin
Lang (Glenshaw, PA), who recorded her first collegiate point,
before Alvarez scored 11:46 later to make it 6-0. In between,
freshman Laurel McPherson (Belmont, NH) found the back of the
net for the first time in her college career with a marker at 64:24. |

Sophomore forward Chelsea Creamer
(Coventry, RI) led the Anchorwomen with three shots. Sophomore
goalkeeper Maddie Pirri (Bristol, RI) made nine saves in a
losing effort (1-5). |

Salve Regina on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. |
