Providence, RI—Freshman

Senior midfielder Brandon Migliore
(Coventry, RI) came down the wing and crossed a pass, which
eventually ended up on the foot of junior midfielder Ryan Kelley
(Hope, RI). Kelley’s shot was stopped and rolled to the charging
Costa, who deposited the ball into the open net. |

Costa has scored in each of the Anchormen’s past two
games and has seven points in his last three contests. |

RIC was forced to come from behind two times in the
game. Just 34 seconds into the contest, senior midfielder Neil
Zimmerman’s (Dallas, TX) long throw-in deflected off an
Anchorman defender and went past junior goalkeeper Cory Rocha
(Riverside, RI) for an own goal. |

|
Freshman forward Troy Silvia
(Bristol, RI) netted the tying goal just 3:40 later, taking a
possession off a turnover, fighting through the Engineer defense and
unleashing a right-footed blast that beat MIT senior goalkeeper
Tom Caldwell (East Berlin, PA) to the top corner. |

The two teams played scoreless soccer
until the 85th minute when sophomore forward Christian
Therkelsen (Nesbru, Norway) sent Zimmerman along the right flank
for a shot that ricocheted off the post to sophomore forward
Chase Anderson (Kenmore, WA) for the go-ahead marker. |

|
The lead was short-lived as Costa
scored just 21 seconds later on the ensuing possession. Although RIC
outshot MIT, 4-0, through two 10-minute overtime periods, the game
finished in a draw. |

|
Caldwell (3-0-1) went the distance in
net for MIT, making five saves. Rocha made one stop in the first
half before giving way to freshman goalkeeper Justin O’Connor
(North Kingstown, RI) for the second stanza and two OT periods.
O’Connor (1-2-1) made one save. |

|
The Anchormen (2-3-1), who held an
advantage in shots (18-11), are unbeaten in their last three games.
The Engineers (4-0-1), who gave up season-high two goals, remain
undefeated as well. |
