Newport,
RI—The
Salve Regina University women’s soccer team earned their first
victory of the season, and its first win over Rhode Island College
since 2002, with a 2-1 effort today in a non-league meeting on
Brother Reynolds Field. |

|
|
|
Seahawk
sophomore Kendra Andrie (Muskegon, MI) scored her second goal
in as many games. She delivered on her third shot attempt of the
contest when junior Jennifer Duval (Dudley, MA) helped create
a 2-on-1 attack. |
|
|
|
|
The
Anchorwomen evened the score when junior midfielder Christina
Tavana (Middletown, CT), their primary corner kick person,
converted a free kick from 25 yards out over the head of Seahawk
keeper Katie Vaudrain (Pawtucket, RI). |

Senior
midfielder Rebecca Fiske (Charlton, MA) scored the
game-winner with just under nine minutes remaining in the second
half on a corner kick from freshman Jackie Lee (North Reading,
MA). Vaudrain stopped the last shot on goal less than a minute
later and totaled five saves in the win. |

|
Sophomore
goalkeeper Maddie Pirri (Bristol, RI) made four saves in a
losing effort for RIC. Tavana’s goal snapped a 460:23 scoreless
streak for the Anchorwomen. |

|
|
In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will open the Little East Conference
circuit in its home-opener vs. UMass Boston on Saturday, Sept. 20 at
noon. |
