3-0, WIN OVER BEACONS RAISES CURRENT UNBEATEN STREAK TO FIVE GAMES

Boston, MA—Freshman
forward Bruno Costa (Pawtucket, RI)
netted a pair
of goals to lead the Rhode Island College men’s soccer team over
host University of Massachusetts Boston, 3-0, today in the Little
East Conference opener at the Clark Athletic Center field on the
campus of UMass Boston. The Beacons fall to 2-5-0 overall and 0-1-0
in LEC play, while the Anchormen improve to 4-3-1 and 1-0-0. |

Since starting the season 0-3, RIC is
unbeaten in its last five games (4-0-1). |

Rhode Island College got on the board
in the first half when sophomore defender Kory Pacheco
(Smithfield, RI) sent a throw into the box where Costa put a
head on it from the 10-yard line to direct it off the cross bar and
into the net for a 1-0 lead at 30:43. Costa’s second score came
when senior midfielder Brandon Migliore (Coventry, RI) found
senior defender Josh Silva (Dartmouth, MA) on a corner kick
at the back of the 18-yard marker, where he crossed to Costa at the
six-yard line for a header that found the back of the net at 81:11
of the second half for a 3-0 Anchormen advantage. |

Rhode Island College’s second goal of
the afternoon came on an own goal at 55:16 of the second half. |

The
Anchormen
owned an 18-7 shot advantage as sophomore keeper Domenick
Persuitte (West Barnstable, MA) made seven saves for UMass
Boston, while freshman goalie Justin O’Connor (North Kingstown,
RI) turned away two shots for Rhode Island College. |
