IN LITTLE EAST PLAY

Tally in Ninth Minute Proves to be the Difference

North Dartmouth, MA—Rhode
Island College sophomore midfielder Mike Diogo (Bristol, RI)
scored in the ninth minute to lift the Anchormen to a 1-0 victory
over Little East Conference rival UMass Dartmouth at Cressy Field on
Saturday. |

RIC improves to 5-3-2 overall and 2-0
in the Little East, while the Corsairs fall to 5-4 overall and 1-1
in league play. After opening the season with an 0-3 mark, the
Anchormen have posted a 5-0-2 record. |

|
Diogo’s cross struck UMD junior
defender Alex Bettencourt (New Bedford, MA) and deflected
into the net to give the Anchormen an advantage they would not
relinquish. The Corsairs had several chances, but were unable to put
a shot past RIC freshman goalkeeper Justin O’Connor (North
Kingstown, RI). |

for UMass Dartmouth, while O’Connor made five for the Anchormen. |

O’Connor has not allowed a goal over
the past 311:25 of action. He is 3-0-1 in the club’s last four games
and has notched three straight shutouts. |

College has the week to prepare for its next conference tilt, a date
with Western Connecticut on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. |
