JAHODA’S HAT TRICK HELPS PRIDE
BLOW BY ANCHORWOMEN, 5-1

Providence, RI—Springfield College freshman midfielder Jen Jahoda (Lebanon, CT) scored three goals in a 6:33 time span to help lead the Pride past Rhode Island College, 5-1, in collegiate women’s soccer action on Tuesday evening.

Springfield raises its current unbeaten streak to four games (2-0-2) and is now 5-2-2 overall. The Anchorwomen suffer their eighth consecutive defeat and drop to 1-9 on the season.

Despite being outshot, 16-3, in the first half, Rhode Island College who cracked the scoring column first. Sophomore forward Chelsea Creamer (Coventry, RI), who was seeing her first action in two weeks, came out of a scrum with the ball and lofted a 27-yard shot that eluded Springfield senior goalkeeper Sue Jenney (Agawam, MA) for her team-leading third goal of the year in 41^st minute.

The lead was short-lived for RIC, as Jahoda knotted the contest up just 1:16 into the second stanza, which was set up by senior back Kayla Thibault (Lebanon, CT). Jahoda cashed in the 50^th and 53^rd minute, respectively, to cap off her hat trick performance and put the Pride on top for good. She currently leads SC in scoring with six goals and one assist for 13 points.

Springfield sealed the victory with a pair of insurance goals, which came 11 seconds apart. Freshman midfielder Amber Thornton (Troy, NY) recorded her first goal of the year and graduate forward Nicole Hanewich (Smithfield, RI) capped off the game’s scoring with her second tally. Both markers came in the 58^th minute.

The Pride finished with a 37-9 advantage in shots. Jenney made three saves to improve her record to 5-2-2, while RIC sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Pirri (Bristol, RI) sees her mark fall to 1-9 with a 10-save effort.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference play with a 4 p.m. start at home against UMass Dartmouth on Thursday, Oct. 2.
