BIGGS’ GOAL IN THE 56th MINUTE
WINS IT FOR CARDINALS

Providence, RI—Wesleyan
freshman Hillary Biggs (West Newbury, MA) was sent in on a
breakaway by senior Sam Blank (Chicago, IL) and scored the
game-winning goal in the 56th minute to lead the
Cardinals past Rhode Island College, 2-1, in collegiate women’s
soccer action on Wednesday evening at the RIC Soccer Field. |

The Cardinals win for the
fourth straight game and improve their record to 6-1-1. The
Anchorwomen suffer their 11th defeat (1-11-1) on the
season. |

Wesleyan struck first in the
25th minute as sophomore midfielder Cora Lautzee (San
Francisco, CA) headed in a corner kick from junior midfielder
Taylor Stevenson (Glastonbury, CT). |

|
The Anchorwomen netted the
equalizer as junior midfielder Christina Tavana (Middletown, CT)
beat Wesleyan senior starting goalkeeper Gavi Elkind (San
Francisco, CA) with a long-range free kick 4:37 later. |

After falling behind in the
second half, the Anchorwomen had two golden opportunities to tie the
game, but sophomore forward Chelsea Creamer’s (Coventry, RI)
header was stopped on the goal line during a corner kick and senior
forward Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, RI) was denied on a
breakaway by freshman goalkeeper Claire Colton (Montclair, NJ). |

In upcoming action, Rhode
