Providence, RI--The Rhode Island College Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation held its annual Fall Banquet at RIC’s Donovan Dining Center on Wednesday, Nov. 28 to honor those student-athletes who participate in varsity fall athletics. Each sport gave out their Most Valuable Player Award.

Junior sweeper James Williamson (North Kingstown, RI) was named the men’s soccer team’s Most Valuable Player. Williamson was named Second Team All-Little East Conference this past season. The co-captain played in 17 games, starting all of them. He had three goals and one assist for seven points on the season. He was tied for second on the team in points and was second in goals.

Williamson is a physical education major and a 1997 graduate of North Kingstown High School.

Senior midfielder/forward Caitlin Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) was named the women’s soccer team’s Most Valuable Player. Schimmel was named Second Team All-Little East Conference this past season. She played in 16 games, starting all of them. She had three goals and seven assists for 13 points on the season. Schimmel was second on the team in assists and third in points. She was fifth on the team in goals.

Schimmel leaves RIC having played in 33 games, starting all of them. Schimmel, who spent 1998 and 1999 at the Community College of Rhode Island, garnering All-Region honors, totaled 30 goals and 27 assists for 87 points in her four-year collegiate career. At RIC, Schimmel had ten goals, 12 assists and 32 points in two seasons. She is tied for fourth in assists and ranks sixth in both points and goals as an Anchorwoman.

She is a psychology major and a 1998 graduate of Cumberland High School.

Junior Carminda Rocha (East Providence, RI) was named the women’s tennis team’s Most Valuable Player. Rocha was the Little East Conference Champion at number two singles. This is the third straight singles title for Rocha who was the LEC Champion at number four singles in 2000 and 1999.

She was 15-2 (.882) at number two singles and 13-4 (.765) at number one doubles for a team high 21.5 points on the season. Rocha led the team in singles wins and was tied for first in doubles wins.

Rocha is currently second all-time at RIC with 60.5 career points. She is also second in career singles victories, posting a 42-9-1 mark through three seasons. She is third all-time in career doubles victories, posting a 36-13 mark through three seasons.

She is a music education major and a 1999 graduate of East Providence High School.

Senior middle hitter Brandee Trainer (North Kingstown, RI) was named the women’s volleyball team’s Most Valuable Player.

Trainer played in 109 games in 31 matches this season and was selected to play in the New England Women’s Volleyball Association’s (NEWVA) Senior Classic. For the season, she had 291 kills (2.670/game), a .265 hitting percentage, nine assists (0.083/game), 48 service aces (0.440/game), 149 digs (1.367/game) and 90 blocks (0.826/game). She led the team in hitting percentage, kills and blocks. She was second on the team in service aces and fifth in digs.

Trainer leaves RIC having played in 432 games in 121 matches. She totaled 2,581 attempts, 941 kills, a .236 hitting percentage, 526 digs, 28 assists and 374 blocks. She is RIC’s all-time leader in career attempts, kills and blocks. Trainer is third in career hitting percentage.

Trainer is a Spanish/secondary education major and a 1998 graduate of North Kingstown High School.

Junior Tim Rudd (Warwick, RI) was named the men’s cross country team’s Most Valuable Player. Rudd placed 89^th with a time of 27:37 at the New England Division III Championships. Rudd placed 46^th with a time of 28:14 at the ECAC Division III Championships. He placed 17^th overall with a time of 26:46 at the Alliance Championships. He placed first with a time of 28:31 at the Eastern Nazarene Invitational. He placed 14^th with a time of 27:42 at the James Early Invitational. Rudd placed 16^th with a time of 28:40 at the Tri-State Championships. He placed fourth with a time of 28:15 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational. He placed 63^rd with a season-best time of 27:06 (also the team’s season-best time) at the UMASS-Dartmouth Invitational. Rudd placed eighth with a time of 28:56 at the CCRI Invitational.

He is a political science major and a 1999 graduate of Pilgrim High School.

Sophomore Michelle Boudreau (Lincoln, RI) was named the women’s cross country team’s Most Valuable Player. Boudreau placed 163^rd with a time of 21:02 at the New England Division III Championships. Boudreau placed 88^th with a time of 21:45 at the ECAC Division III Championships. She placed 27^th with a season-best time (also a team season-best) of 20:35 at the Alliance Championships. She placed third with a time of 20:53 at the Eastern Nazarene Invitational. She placed 76^th with a time of 21:27 at the James Early Invitational. She placed 36^th with a time of 22:44 at the Bryant Invitational. Boudreau placed 16^th with a time of 21:45 at the Tri-State Championships. She placed 26^th with a time of 21:52 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational. She placed 116^th with a time of 20:55 at the UMASS-Dartmouth Invitational. Boudreau placed 11^th with a time of 22:58 at the CCRI Invitational.

She is an elementary education major, with a concentration in special education, and a 1999 graduate of Lincoln High School.
