NECCWA Hall of Fame to Enshrine Three
Former Rhode Island College Wrestlers |

Providence, RI— Former
Rhode Island College wrestlers Brian Allen, Scott Carlsten
and Scott Martin are among the inaugural class to be inducted
into the New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA)
Hall of Fame on Sunday, Feb. 17. The ceremony will take place just
prior to the Championship Finals of the 2002 NECCWA Tournament, which
will be hosted by Springfield College. The ceremony will begin at
approximately 6:30 p.m. |

All three wrestlers are
among the best ever to compete for the Anchormen. Allen owns a career
record of 141-33. He was a two-time All-American, earning honors in
1989 at 126 pounds and in 1991 at 134 pounds. |
|
He was a four-time New
England Champion, winning at 126 pounds in 1988, ’89 and ’90, and
at 134 pounds in 1991. He is tied for second all-time in pins at RIC
with 23 career wins by fall. |

Allen is one of only five
former RIC wrestlers who were a part of NECCWA Championship teams in
each of their four years at RIC. |
|
He is a 1996 graduate of
RIC and is currently a physical education/health teacher in the City
of Providence’s School Department. He resides in Providence, Rhode
Island. |
|
Scott Carlsten is arguably
the most dominant wrestler in RIC history. He owns a career record of
163-17-1, the most wins by any RIC wrestler. He was undefeated during
his career in dual meets, posting a perfect 70-0-1 mark. He is the
all-time leader with 34 career pins. Carlsten also owns the single
season record for pins with 12 set during the 1991-92 season. |

He was a two-time
All-American, earning honors in 1991 and 1992 at 158 pounds. He was a
four-time New England Champion, winning at 158 pounds in 1989, ’90,
’91 and ’92. |

Carlsten is one of only
five former RIC wrestlers who were a part of NECCWA Championship teams
in each of their four years at RIC. |
|
He is a 1994 graduate of
RIC and is currently a Rhode Island State Trooper. He currently
resides in Cumberland, Rhode Island. |
|
Scott Martin, like Allen
and Carlsten, was a four-time New England Champion, winning titles in
1986, ’87, ’88 and ’89 at 118 pounds. Martin was a two-time
All-American, earning honors in 1988 and 1989. |
|
He was a member of two RIC
NECCWA Championship teams in 1988 and 1989. He currently ranks tenth
all-time at RIC in career wins and pins. |
|
Martin’s success on the
mat was a key factor in strengthening RIC’s recruiting which led to
three more NECCWA Championships in 1990, 1991 and 1992. |
|
He was inducted into the
Rhode Island College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. |
|
He owns his own computer
business and resides in North Smithfield, Rhode Island. |
