Men’s
Basketball
(1-24 Overall, 0-14 in the Little East) |

Providence, RI— Head
Coach Mike Kelly’s Anchormen finished the 2001-02 season with
a 1-24 overall record and a 0-14 record in the Little East Conference.
RIC went 0-2 this week, losing a tough ballgame to UMASS-Dartmouth
79-75 on Feb. 12 and falling to Plymouth State 88-64 on Feb. 16 in the
season finale |

Freshman forward Kevin
Payette (Woonsocket, RI) played in 25 games, starting 19 of them.
He averaged 8.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steals per
game on the season. |

Freshman forward Jason
Harris (Bedford, MA) played in 25 games, starting 20 of them. He
averaged 9.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game on the
season. |

Junior guard Eric Britto
(Riverside, RI) played in 25 games, starting 16 of them. He
averaged 8.3 points, 1.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 0.9 steals per game
on the season. |

Sophomore center Kurt
Gorter (North Kingstown, RI) played in 16 games, starting 13 of
them. He averaged 7.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game on the season. |

Junior guard James Heady
(Bridgeport, CT) played in 24 games, starting eight of them. He
averaged 5.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game on the
season. |

Sophomore forward Mike
Costigan (Pawtucket, RI) played in 25 games, starting 21 of them.
He averaged 4.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game on the
season. |

Freshman guard Greg
Bushey (Hudson, NH) played in 20 games. He averaged 4.2 points,
1.6 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game on the season. |

Freshman forward Ian
Robertson (Naugatuck, CT) played in 25 games, starting 15 of them.
He averaged 3.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game on the season. |

Senior guard Mike
Monahan (Johnston, RI) played in 20 games, starting in two of
them. He averaged 2.5 points and 0.9 rebounds per game on the season. |

Freshman forward Raleigh
Brennan (Middletown, RI) played in 21 games, starting one of them.
He averaged 1.9 points and 1.8 rebounds per game on the season. |

Sophomore forward Matt
Records (East Greenwich, RI) played in 19 games. He averaged 3.4
points and 1.6 rebounds per game on the season. |

Sophomore guard Bobby
Carroll (Fairfield, CT) played in 11 games. He averaged 7.3 points
and 2.6 rebounds per game on the season. |

Head Coach Mike Kelley’s
team finished the 2001-02 season with a 5-20 overall record and a 2-12
mark in the Little East Conference. RIC went 1-1 last week, defeating
UMASS-Dartmouth 60-46 on Feb. 12 and falling to Plymouth State 79-59
in the season finale on Feb. 16. |

Sophomore guard Angela
Sarette (Putnam, CT) played in 25 games, starting 15 of them. She
averaged 10.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game on the
season. |

Sophomore forward Elizabeth
Shields (Warwick, RI) played in 25 games, starting all of them.
She averaged 8.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.8 blocks and 1.6
steals per game on the season. |

Sophomore guard Monyca
Vickers (Mattapoisett, MA) played in 19 games, starting seven of
them. She averaged 5.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2
steals per game on the season. |

Sophomore guard Katie
Hansen (Narragansett, RI) played in 25 games, starting 24 of them.
She averaged 8.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals per
game on the season. |

Senior forward Melanie
Wolf (Gorham, NH) played in 25 games, starting all of them. The
co-captain averaged 3.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game on the
season. |

Sophomore guard Tara
Mekuto (Providence, RI) played in 23 games, starting three of
them. She averaged 2.4 points and 1.9 rebounds per game on the season. |

Freshman guard Becca
Bissonnette (Danielson, CT) played in 23 games, starting all of
them. She averaged 6.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game on the season. |

Sophomore guard Abby
Ferri (Greene, RI) played in 25 games, starting one of them. She
averaged 3.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.5 steals per game
on the season. |

Junior guard Pamela
Kelly (West Hartford, CT) played in 24 games, starting two of
them. The co-captain averaged 1.7 points and 1.0 rebounds per game on
the season. |

Hersperger (Providence, RI) played in 18 games. She averaged 0.8
rebounds per game on the season. |

Head Coach Jay Jones’
Anchormen closed out the 2001-02 season at the NECCWA Championships on
Saturday, Feb. 16, and Sunday, Feb. 17. The Anchormen finished 12th
out of 15 teams with 29.5 points. |

Junior Mike Riley
(Lowell, MA) earned All-New England honors, placing third at the
NECCWA Championships at 133 pounds. Riley had a 28-match winning
streak stopped at the championships. The co-captain was 37-6 with 163
points, 128 takedowns, ten reversals, 48 escapes, 21 near-falls and
four wins by fall on the year. |

Freshman Justin Deveau
(North Attleboro, MA) earned All-New England honors, placing
second at NECCWA Championships at 197 pounds. He was 31-15 at 197
pounds with 135 points, 33 takedowns, 15 reversals, 37 escapes, 12
near-falls and eight wins by fall on the year. |

Sophomore Luke Emmons
(West Greenwich, RI) was 25-16 at 141 pounds with 113 points, 40
takedowns, 21 reversals, 33 escapes, 12 near-falls and eight wins by
fall on the year. |

Freshman Amos Traystman
(Montville, CT) was 10-13 at 125 pounds with 48 points, 11
takedowns, three reversals and 13 escapes on the year. |

Sophomore Walter Borden
(East Providence, RI) was 12-18 at 165 and 174 pounds with 64
points, 30 takedowns, ten reversals, 37 escapes, seven near-falls and
six wins by fall on the year. |

Sophomore Gerard D’Arezzo
(Cranston, RI) was 6-21 at 184 and 285 pounds with 31 points, 11
takedowns, three reversals, 48 escapes, one near-fall and two wins by
fall on the year. |

Freshman Eddy German
(Providence, RI) was 3-4 at 125 pounds with 12 points, five
takedowns and nine escapes on the year. |

Freshman Jordan Goor
(Lowell, MA) was 10-22 at 285 pounds with 45 points, nine
takedowns, five reversals, 22 escapes and one win by fall on the year. |

Freshman Matt Kelly
(Carver, MA) was 5-8 at 141 and 149 pounds with 24 points, six
takedowns, two reversals, 17 escapes, six near-falls and two wins by
fall on the year. |

(Harrisville, RI) was 2-7 at 184, 197 and 285 pounds with nine
points, three takedowns, two reversals, 12 escapes, two near-falls and
one win by fall on the year. |

(Harrisville, RI) was 8-22 at 165 and 174 pounds with 34 points,
15 takedowns, 18 reversals, 47 escapes, eight near-falls and two wins
by fall on the year. |

(Georgetown, MA) was 12-17 at 141 and 149 pounds with 54 points,
38 takedowns, five reversals, 41 escapes, six near-falls and three
wins by fall on the year. |

(Riverside, RI) was 1-3 at 149 pounds with six points, four
takedowns, two reversals, one escape, two near-falls and one win by
fall on the year. |

(Cranston, RI) was 3-10 at 157 and 165 pounds with 18 points, one
takedown, four reversals, 26 escapes, one near-fall and one win by
fall on the year. |

(Wakefield, MA) was 10-16 at 157 and 174 pounds with 42 points, 22
takedowns, seven reversals, 20 escapes, 11 near-falls and two wins by

ten takedowns and 25 escapes on the year. |

Follett Pannone’s Anchorwomen are currently 0-7 overall and 0-4
in the Eastern College Athletic Conference. RIC placed fifth out of
six teams at the Ithaca Invitational with a team score of 172.425 on
Feb. 17. |

Senior captain Kristen
Oliver (Bristol, RI) broke her left foot at the Wilson
Invitational on Jan. 26 and is out indefinitely. Oliver was averaging
scores of 8.460 on vault, 6.913 on bars, 8.681 on beam, 8.835 on floor
and 32.950 in the all-around. |

Sophomore Nicki Turner
(Salem, NH) is out indefinitely after tearing her left ACL over
Christmas Break. Turner was averaging scores of 8.150 on vault, 6.925
on bars and 8.300 on floor. |

Junior captain Shannon
Hughey (Warwick, RI) is averaging scores of 8.769 on vault, 8.681
on bars, 8.441 on beam, 9.009 on floor and 34.900 in the all-around. |

Field |

Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s
Anchormen competed at the New England Division III Championships on
Friday, Feb. 15, and Saturday, Feb. 16. The team finished tied for
21st (24 teams) with three points on the weekend. |

The distance medley team of
senior co-captain Chris Puleo (Barrington, RI), junior Mike
Daniels (Warwick, RI), sophomore co-captain Tim Rudd (Warwick,
RI) and freshman Joe Parenteau (Smithfield, RI) was named
All-New England, placing sixth with a time of 10:44.84. |

In upcoming action, the
Anchormen will compete at the ECAC Division III Championships to be
held on Mar. 2 at Tufts University. |

Women’s Indoor Track &
Field |
|
Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s
Anchorwomen competed at the New England Division III Championships on
Saturday, Feb. 16. The team finished tied for 19th (26 teams) with
seven points on the day. |

Freshman Rolanda Mangum
(Providence, RI) was named All-New England in the weight throw,
placing fourth with a mark of 48’07.25". Mangum previously
qualified for the NCAA Championships in the weight throw. |
|
Freshman Katherine
McCalligett (Warwick, RI) established a new school record in the
400 meters with a time of 1:00.37. That time earned her a seventh
place finish and All-New England honors. McCalligett also placed ninth
in the 200 meters dash with a time of 27.40. |
|
In upcoming action, the
Anchorwomen will compete at the ECAC Division III Championships to be
held on Mar. 2 at Tufts University. |
