2001-02 Season Summary

Providence, RI— Head
Coach Mike Kelly ended his first season as a collegiate head
coach with a 1-24 overall record and a 0-14 record in the Little East
Conference in 2001-02 |

Senior guard Mike
Monahan (Johnston, RI) leaves RIC after two seasons of action in
an Anchorman uniform. Prior to coming to RIC, he spent two seasons at
the Community College of Rhode Island in 1998-99 and 1999-00. During
his four-year college career, he played in 72 career games, starting
two of them. He totaled 279 points, 54 rebounds, 23 assists, 13 steals
and three blocks for his career. |

As a senior in 2001-02,
Monahan played in 20 games, starting in two of them. He averaged 2.5
points and 0.9 rebounds per game on the season. Monahan scored a
career-high ten points vs. Western New England on Nov. 16 and again on
Feb. 9 vs. Southern Maine. |

As a junior in 2000-01,
Monahan played in 23 games. He averaged 4.3 points, 0.8 rebounds, 0.3
assists and 0.4 steals per game. Monahan was second on the team with
23 made three-point baskets. He scored a season-high nine points vs.
Keene State. He grabbed a season-high three rebounds twice, vs.
Plymouth State and Warner Southern. |

During his two seasons at
CCRI, Monahan played in 29 games, averaging 4.6 points per game for
the Knights. |

Monahan is a history major
and a 1998 graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School. |

Junior guard Eric Britto
(Riverside, RI) played in 25 games, starting 16 of them. He
averaged 8.3 points, 1.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 0.9 steals per game
on the season. Britto tallied a career-high 21 points and dished out
six assists vs. Virginia International on Jan. 5. He scored a
team-high 17 points vs. Warner Southern on Jan. 2. |

Junior forward Mike
Costigan (Pawtucket, RI) played in 25 games, starting 21 of them.
He averaged 4.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, 0.6 steals and 1.4 assists per
game on the season. Costigan scored a season-high 13 points vs.
Hartwick on Nov. 17. |

Junior guard James Heady
(Bridgeport, CT) played in 24 games, starting eight of them. He
averaged 5.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.7 steals and 1.3 assists per game
on the season. Heady tallied a season-high ten points and matched a
career-high with seven rebounds vs. Hartwick on Nov. 17 and again on
Jan. 8 vs. Southern Maine. |

Sophomore guard Bobby
Carroll (Fairfield, CT) joined the team second semester and
played in 11 games. He averaged 7.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 0.7
assists and 1.0 steals per game on the season. Carroll drained five
three-point field goals and recorded a career-high 17 points vs. Keene
State on Feb. 2. He tallied a team-high 16 points vs. Southern Maine
on Feb. 9. |

Sophomore center Kurt
Gorter (North Kingstown, RI) played in 16 games, starting 13 of
them. He averaged 7.2 points, a team-high 7.8 rebounds and 1.1 blocks
per game on the season. Gorter notched a career-high 20 points on
8-of-9 from the field vs. UMASS-Dartmouth on Feb. 12. He recorded a
career-high 12 rebounds vs. UMASS-Boston on Dec. 8 and duplicated the
feat three days later vs. Johnson & Wales. |

Sophomore forward Matt
Records (East Greenwich, RI) played in 19 games. He averaged 3.4
points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game on the season. Records
tallied a career-high nine points vs. Flagler on Jan. 4. |

Freshman forward Raleigh
Brennan (Middletown, RI) played in 21 games, starting one of them.
He averaged 1.9 points and 1.8 rebounds per game on the season.
Brennan scored a career-high eight points and snagged a career-high
six rebounds vs. Coast Guard on Dec. 4. |

Freshman guard Greg
Bushey (Hudson, NH) played in 20 games. He averaged 4.2 points,
1.6 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.0 assists per game on the season.
Bushey scored a career-high 17 points vs. Johnson & Wales on Dec.
11. |

Freshman forward Jason
Harris (Bedford, MA) played in 25 games, starting 20 of them. He
averaged a team-high 9.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game
on the season. Harris put up a team season-high of 22 points and
grabbed ten rebounds in RIC’s lone win vs. Bridgewater State on Jan.
12. He scored 17 points and pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds vs.
Western Connecticut. |

Freshman forward Kevin
Payette (Woonsocket, RI) played in 25 games, starting 19 of them.
He averaged 8.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steals per
game on the season. Payette scored a season-high 21 points vs. UMASS-Boston
on Dec. 8. He tallied 15 points in the Anchormen’s lone win vs.
Bridgewater State on Jan. 12. |

Freshman forward Ian
Robertson (Naugatuck, CT) played in 25 games, starting 15 of them.
He averaged 3.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.7 blocks per game on the
season. Robertson tallied a career-high 13 points vs. Coast Guard on
Dec. 4. He pulled down a team season-high 13 rebounds vs. Western
Connecticut on Jan. 15. |
