Rhode Island College Winter Sports Update #11

Men’s Indoor Track

Providence, RI—Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s men’s indoor track and field team competed at the Division III ECAC Championships, hosted by Tufts University, on Saturday, Mar. 2. The Anchormen did not score as a team.

Sophomore Tim Rudd (Warwick, RI) placed ninth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:02.44. Rudd earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in that event on Feb. 12.

The distance medley relay team consisting of Rudd, freshman Joe Parenteau (Smithfield, RI), junior Mike Daniels (Warwick, RI) and senior Chris Puleo (Barrington, RI) placed 19th with a time of 10:38.23.

 

Women’s Indoor Track

Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s women’s indoor track and field team competed at the Division III ECAC Championships, hosted by Tufts University, on Saturday, Mar. 2. The Anchorwomen finished tied for 38th place with 5.0 points.

Freshman Rolanda Mangum (Providence, RI) earned All-ECAC honors in the weight throw, placing fourth with a throw of 15.19 meters. Mangum previously earned All-New England and All-Alliance/Little East honors in that event.

Mangum is currently ranked 15th in the nation in the weight throw, the highest rank for a freshman in that event. She is a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division III National Championships in the weight throw.

Freshman Katherine McCalligett (Warwick, RI) placed 22nd in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.17 and 25th in the 200 meters with a time of 27.31.
