Rhode Island College Softball Qualifies for ECAC Tournament
Providence, RI—The Rhode Island College softball team has qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament. The Anchorwomen are the sixth seed and will play at third-seeded Coast Guard on Wednesday, May 8 at 4:30 p.m.
This is the second ECAC berth for RIC Head Coach Maria Morin, whose team last qualified for the tourney during the 1999 campaign. RIC is currently 25-12 overall. The Anchorwomen defeated Eastern Connecticut 2-1 in the first round of the Little East Conference Tournament on Apr. 30, only to be ousted in the semi-finals with a 2-1 loss to Western Connecticut and a 3-0 loss to Plymouth State on May 3.

Junior first baseman Michele Fanelli (Pembroke Pines, FL) has played in 35 games, starting all of them. She is batting .385 with 21 runs, 45 hits, six doubles, four triples, 25 RBI and one stolen base.
Junior shortstop Melanie Miller (Warwick, RI) has played in 35 games, starting all of them. She is batting .222 with 17 runs, 26 hits, three doubles, five RBI and two stolen bases.
Junior second basemen Caitlin Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) has played in 35 games, starting 34 of them. She is batting .182 with eight runs, 14 hits, one double, seven RBI and one stolen base.
Sophomore catcher Katie Ferreira (Rehoboth, MA) has played in 18 games, starting 16 of them. She is batting .212 with five runs, seven hits and two RBI.
Sophomore centerfielder Sue Gaber (Colchester, CT) has played in 34 games, starting all of them. She is batting .235 with 12 runs, 20 hits and eight RBI.
Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Kim Warrington (North Kingstown, RI) has appeared in 25 games, starting 22 of them. She is 14-8 with a 1.02 ERA, 20 complete games, seven shutouts, and 134 strikeouts in 151.2 innings. As a hitter, she has played in 30 games, starting 26 of them. She is batting .185 with eight runs, 15 hits, two doubles, four triples, ten RBI and two stolen bases.
Freshman catcher Rachael Caldwell (Shannock, RI) has played in 35 games, starting 34 of them. She is batting .314 with 12 runs, 32 hits, nine doubles, one triple, one home run and 23 RBI.
Freshman infielder Amy Machado (Newport, RI) has played in 34 games, starting 32 of them. She is batting .276 with 16 runs, 27 hits, one double, two triples, 15 RBI and three stolen bases.
Freshman outfielder Jennifer Puniello (Bristol, RI) has played in 25 games, starting 21 of them. She is batting .310 with six runs, 18 hits and 11 RBI.
Freshman infielder Aimee Reed (Pawcatuck, CT) has played in 16 games, starting 12 of them. She is batting .297 with nine runs, 11 hits and six RBI.
Freshman pitcher/left fielder Casey Soares (Swansea, MA) has appeared in 15games, starting 13 of them. She is 9-4 with a 1.62 ERA, ten complete games, two shutouts and 70 strikeouts in 82.0 innings pitched. As a hitter, she has played in 35 games, starting all of them. She is batting .320 with 24 runs, 33 hits, eight doubles, two triples, nine RBI and three stolen bases.
