RIAIAW Names North Kingstown’s
Brandee Trainer as a Distinguished Student-Athlete |
|

|
Providence, RI-- Rhode
Island College senior Brandee Trainer (North Kingstown, RI) was
named a Distinguished Student-Athlete by the Rhode Island Association
of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (RIAIAW) at a reception held at
Bryant College on Wednesday, May 8. |
|

|
Brown University, Bryant
College, the Community College of Rhode Island, Johnson and Wales
University, Providence College, Rhode Island College, Roger Williams
University, Salve Regina University and the University of Rhode Island
each had one student-athlete from their respective institution receive
this distinction. |
|
|
|
Trainer is one of the
finest women’s volleyball players in Rhode Island College history.
In addition to her exploits on the court, Trainer was named a
Distinguished Student-Athlete by the Rhode Island Board of Governors
for Higher Education (RIBGHE) in 2000 and 2001. She was recently named
a Scholar-Athlete by the Rhode Island Speaker of the House and the
Rhode Island House of Representatives. |

She leaves RIC having
played in 432 games in 121 matches. She totaled 2,581 attempts, 941
kills, a .236 hitting percentage, 526 digs, 28 assists and 374 blocks.
She is RIC’s all-time leader in career attempts, kills and blocks.
Trainer is third in career hitting percentage. |

As a senior in 2001,
Trainer was named the team’s Most Valuable Player. She played in 109
games in 31 matches. She had 291 kills (2.670/game), a .265 hitting
percentage, nine assists (0.083/game), 48 service aces (0.440/game),
149 digs (1.367/game) and 90 blocks (0.826/game). She led the team in
hitting percentage, kills and blocks. She was second on the team in
service aces and fifth in digs. |

|
As a junior in 2000, she
was named Second Team All-Little East Conference. She played in 86
games in 24 matches. Trainer totaled 238 kills (2.767/game), a .234
hitting percentage, ten assists (0.116/game), 31 service aces
(0.360/game), 165 digs (1.919/game) and 64 blocks (0.744/game).
Trainer led the team in kills, hitting percentage and blocks. She was
third on the team in service aces and fourth in digs. She was named
the Most Valuable Player of the Rhode Island College Invitational for
the second consecutive season. |

As a sophomore in 1999, she
was named to both the RIC Invitational and the Tufts Invitational
All-Tournament teams during the season. Trainer was also the RIC
Invitational’s Most Valuable Player award-winner. Trainer played in
all 117 games in the team’s 34 matches. She led the team with a .248
hitting percentage, 277 kills (2.4/game) and 135 total blocks
(1.2/game). She also registered five assists (0.04/game), 26 service
aces (0.22/game) and 102 digs (0.87/game). Trainer was fourth on the
team in service aces and fifth in digs. |

As a freshman in 1998,
Trainer played in 120 games in 32 matches. She led the team with 110
digs (.917/game) and was second on the team with 85 total blocks
(.708/game). She also had 135 kills (1.125/game), four assists
(.033/game) and 44 service aces (.367/game) on the year. Trainer was
third on the team in service aces. |

She is a Spanish/secondary
education major and a 1998 graduate of North Kingstown High School.
Her cumulative grade point average is 3.85. |
