2002 Season Summary |
|
Providence, RI-- The
Rhode Island College mens outdoor track and field team, led by
first-year Head Coach Kevin Jackson and his assistants Matt
Hird and Liz Legault, closed out the season at the 2002
Division III Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships,
hosted by Springfield College, on May 16-17. The Anchormen had six
competitors take part in the Championships and did not score as a
team. |

The Anchormen did not place
at the 2002 Division III New England Championships, hosted by Williams
College, on May 4. The Anchormen had six competitors compete at the
championships. |
|
RIC tied for eighth place
(ten teams) with 18.0 points at the 2002 Little East/MASCAC Alliance
Championships, held at Westfield State College, on Apr. 27. The
Anchormen placed fourth (five teams) in the Little East Conference on
the day. |

Junior Brian Carney
(Barrington, RI) posted a season-best time of 1:01.03 in the 400
meters, placing 13th at the Rhode Island College
Invitational on Apr. 6. Carney placed 17th in the long jump
with a season-best leap of 1609.75" at the Husky Spring Open
Invitational on Mar. 30. |

Junior Mike Daniels
(Warwick, RI) placed 17th as part of the 4 x 400 meter
relay team with a time of 3:37.36 at the ECAC Div. III Championships.
He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 800 meters, placing
fourth with a season-best time of 1:58.33. Daniels earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4 x 400 meter relay
team, which placed sixth with a time of 3:35.24 at the Alliance
Championships. He threw the javelin a season-long distance of
13510.25" at the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr.
20. |

Junior James Giammarco
(Southington, CT) recorded a season-best distance of
10607.00" in the javelin at the Husky Spring Open Invitational
on Mar. 30. He posted a second-best distance of 10503.20" at
the Alliance Championships. |

Junior Charm Howie
(Providence, RI) placed 14th as part of the 4 x 100
meter relay team with a time of 46.30 at the ECAC Div. III
Championships. He placed 13th as part of the 4 x 100 meter
relay team with a time of 46.58 at the New England Div. III
Championships. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors as
part of the 4 x 100 meter relay team, which placed fifth, with a time
of 45.51 at the Alliance Championships. |

Howie earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4 x 400 meter relay
team, which placed sixth with a time of 3:35.24 at the Alliance
Championships. |

He placed eighth in the 100
meters with a season-best time of 11.96 at the RIC Invitational on
Apr. 6. He also placed fourth in the 200 meters with a season-best
time of 23.67 at the same meet. He placed seventh in the 400 meters at
the Alliance Championships with a season-best time of 52.65. |

Sophomore Charles Kuti
(Providence, RI) was named the teams MVP. He placed 14th
as part of the 4 x 100 meter relay team with a time of 46.30 at the
ECAC Div. III Championships. He placed 13th as part of the
4 x 100 meter relay team with a time of 46.58 at the New England Div.
III Championships. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors
as part of the 4 x 100 meter relay team, which placed fifth, with
a time of 45.51 at the Alliance Championships. |

Kuti earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 100 meters, placing sixth with
a time of 11.86 at the Alliance Championships. Kuti recorded a
season-best time of 11.44 in that event during the preliminary run. |

He recorded a season-best
time of 24.24 in the 200 meters and a distance of 1709.75" in
the long jump at the Alliance Championships. |
|
Junior co-captain Tim
Rudd (Warwick, RI) placed 17th as part of the 4 x 400
meter relay team with a time of 3:37.36 at the ECAC Div. III
Championships. He placed 14th in the 1,500 meters with a
time of 4:14.26. |

Rudd placed 14th
in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:08.79 at the New England Div. III
Championships. |

Rudd earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4 x 400 meter relay
team, which placed sixth with a time of 3:35.24 at the Alliance
Championships. He also earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the
1,500 meters, placing third with a time of 4:05.34. |

He placed 15th
in the 1,500 meters with a season-best time of 4:01.80 and placed 17th
in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 1:58.10 at the Bernard
Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 20. |

Rudd placed second in the
800 meters with a time of 1:58.79 and first in the 1,500 meters with a
time of 4:06.35 at the Rhode Island College Invitational on Apr. 6. |

He recorded a season-best
time in the 5,000 meters, placing 15th with a time of
16:01.52 at the Husky Spring Open Invitational on Mar. 30. |

Junior Rob Wahnon
(Framingham, MA) ran a season-best time of 2:17.52 in the 800
meters at the RIC Invitational on Apr. 6. He posted a season-best
distance of 11006.00" in the javelin at the Bridgewater State
College Invitational on Apr. 13. He posted a season-best time of
1:02.72 in the 400 meters at the Husky Spring Open Invitational on
Mar. 30. |

Sophomore Joe Giardina
(West Warwick, RI) ran a season-best time of 5:00.33 in the 1,500
meters at the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr 20. He ran a
season-best time of 20:18.14 in the 5,000 meters at the Husky Spring
Open Invitational on Mar. 30. |

Sophomore Jeremy Meyer
(Miami, FL) placed 14th in the 400 meters with a
season-best time of 59.54 at the Alliance Championships. He placed 19th
in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.86 at the Bridgewater State
College Invitational on Apr. 13. |

Sophomore James Peluso
(Johnston, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the pole
vault, placing fourth with a season-best height of 1100.00" at
the Alliance Championships. He placed fourth in that event with a
height of 1000.00" at the Bridgewater State College
Invitational on Apr. 13. |

Freshman German Cardona
(Pawtucket, RI) placed 14th as part of the 4 x 100
meter relay team with a time of 46.30 at the ECAC Div. III
Championships. He placed 13th as part of the 4 x 100 meter
relay team with a time of 46.58 at the New England Div. III
Championships. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors as
part of the 4 x 100 meter relay team, which placed fifth, with a time

Fernandes (Cumberland, RI) placed 14th as part of the 4
x 100 meter relay team with a time of 46.30 at the ECAC Div. III

Freshman Charles Hewes
(East Hampton, CT) placed ninth in the shot with a distance of
3710.50" at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships.
Hewes placed 14th in the shot with a season-best throw of
4009.00" at the Husky Spring Open Invitational on Mar. 30. |

He placed 12th
in the discus with a season-best distance of 10205.00" at the
Bridgewater State College Invitational on Apr. 13. |

Freshman Matt Kelly
(Carver, MA) posted a season-best distance of 13401.00" in
the javelin at the Husky Spring Open Invitational on Mar. 30. Kelly
recorded a season-best distance of 7110.50" in the hammer at
the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 20. |

Freshman Joe Parenteau
(Smithfield, RI) placed seventh in the 1,500 meters and 19th
in the 800 meters with season-best times of 4:10.14 and 2:08.46
respectively at the Alliance Championships. |
