2002 Season Summary |
|
Providence, RI-- The
Rhode Island College womens outdoor track and field team, led by
first-year Head Coach Kevin Jackson and his assistants Matt
Hird and Liz Legault, closed out the season at the 2002
Division III Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships,
hosted by Springfield College on May 16-17. The Anchorwomen had three
competitors take part in the ECAC Championships and did not score as a
team. |

The Anchorwomen placed 25th
with 4.5 points at the 2002 Division III New England Outdoor
Championships, hosted by Springfield College, on May 4. The
Anchorwomen had four competitors take part in the New England
Championships. |
|
The Anchorwomen finished
fifth (nine teams) overall with 49.0 points and third (five teams) in
the Little East at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships, held
at Westfield State, on Apr. 27. |

Senior Crisolita da Cruz
(Providence, RI) placed eighth in the hammer and 14th
in the discus with distances of 12109.00" and 8105.00"
respectively at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships. Her
throw in discus was her best performance in that event on the year.
She placed seventh in the hammer with a season-best distance of 12811.50"
at the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 20. |

As a junior in 2001, da
Cruz placed tenth in the hammer with a distance of
135"06.00", a season-best performance, at the New England
Division III Championships. She was named All-Alliance/Little East in
the hammer, placing fourth with a distance of 12711.00". |

As a sophomore in 2000, da
Cruz placed 12th in the hammer with a distance of 12900.00"
at the ECAC Division III Championships. She recorded a personal best
throw of 13508.00" at the New England Division III
Championships. She was named All-Alliance/Little East in the hammer,
placing second with a distance of 12504.00" |

As a freshman in 1999, da
Cruz was named All-Alliance/Little East in the hammer, placing third
with a distance of 12311.00". |
|
She is a psychology major
and a 1998 graduate of Classical High School. |

Senior Joyelle Galli
(Exeter, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors
in both the triple and long jump, placing third with a distance of 3209.75"
in the triple jump and fifth with a distance of 1409.25" in
the long jump, at the Alliance Championships. Galli also placed ninth
in the 100 meters with a season-best time of 14.15. |

She placed 15th
in the long jump with a season-best distance of 1504.00" at
the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 20. Galli placed first
in the triple jump with a season-best distance of 3302.50" at
the Bridgewater State Invitational on Apr. 13. |

As a junior in 2001, Galli
was named the teams MVP. She qualified for both the ECAC and the
New England Division III Championships, but was unable to compete due
to an ankle injury she suffered at the 2001 Little East/MASCAC
Alliance Championships. |

Galli was named
All-Alliance/Little East in three events at the 2001 Alliance
Championships. She placed first in the long jump at 1510.75",
second in the triple jump at 3306.00" and placed third as part
of the 4 x 100 meter relay team with a time of 52.61. She placed first
in the long jump at 1610.00" and third in the triple jump at
3502.50", both season-best performances, at the Silfen
Invitational. |

As a sophomore in 2000,
Galli was named All-ECAC, placing third in the long jump at 1505.75".
She was named All-New England in the long jump, placing sixth with a
leap of 1605.00". She also earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in both the long and triple jump. |

As a freshman in 1999,
Galli earned All-ECAC honors in the triple jump as well as
All-Alliance/Little East honors in both the long jump and triple jump. |
|
Galli is an early childhood
education major and a 1998 graduate of Exeter-West Greenwich High
School. |

Junior Michele Dunphy
(Cranston, RI) placed 14th in the 1,500 meters with a
season-best time of 5:36.40 at the Alliance Championships. Dunphy
recorded a season-best time of 2:46.07 in the 800 meters at the
Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 20. |

Junior Leslie Eastwood
(East Providence, RI) placed 11th in the 800 meters
with a time of 2:41.02 at the Alliance Championships. Eastwood ran a
season-best time of 2:39.26 in the 800 meters at the Bernard Solomon
Husky Invitational on Apr. 20. |

Junior Marvel Mejia
(Providence, RI) recorded a season-best time of 34.97 in the 200
meters at the Alliance Championships. |
|
Junior co-captain Joanne
Pora (Attleboro, MA) placed ninth in the javelin with a distance
of 9802.50", 12th in the shot with a season-best
distance of 2801.75" and 15th in the hammer with a
distance of 10209.70" at the Alliance Championships. Pora
placed 11th in the hammer with a season-best distance of
11302.50" at the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr.
20. Pora placed third in the javelin with a season-best distance of
10109.00 at the Rhode Island College Invitational on Apr. 6. |

Sophomore Michelle
Boudreau (Lincoln, RI) placed 14th in the 10,000 meters
with a time of 43:40.81 at the New England Championships. Boudreau
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 10,000 meters, placing
third with a season-best time of 43:24.21. She recorded a season-best
time of 12:31.26 in the 3,000 meters at the Bridgewater State
Invitational on Apr. 13. |

Freshman Shari Fenton
(West Warwick, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in
the hammer, placing sixth with a distance of 12702.70". Fenton
also placed 11th in the shot with a distance of 2901.75"
and recorded a throw of 7008.00" in the discus. All three
efforts were season-best performances. |

Freshman Courtney
Gardiner (Warwick, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in
the triple jump, placing fourth with a season-best distance of 3207.50".
She ran a season-best time of 29.71 in the 200 meters at the Husky
Spring Open Invitational on Mar. 30. |

Freshman Jessica Leonard
(Warwick, RI) placed 20th in the hammer with a throw of
12506.25" at the ECAC Div. III Championships. She placed 24th
in the hammer with a throw of 12511.25" at the New England
Div. III Championships. |
|
She earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the hammer, placing fourth with a
season-best distance of 13606.00". Leonard also placed 16th
in both the shot and the discus with distances of 2505.00" and
a season-best 7809.50" respectively. Leonard recorded a
season-best distance of 2708.25" in the shot at the Husky
Spring Open Invitational on Mar. 30. |

Freshman Kara Maggio
(Warwick, RI) placed fifth in the javelin with a season-best
distance of 9200.00" at the Bridgewater State Invitational on
Apr. 13. |

Freshman Rolanda Mangum
(Providence, RI) narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA Div. III
National Championships in the hammer. She competed at the ECAC Div.
III Championships, but fouled out during her throw. |

She earned All-New England
honors, placing seventh in the hammer throw with a distance of 14503.50"
at the New England Div. III Championships. Mangum earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors, placing first in the hammer with a
season-best distance of 15100.70". |

She placed 12th
in the discus with a season-best distance of 8807.25" at the
Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 20. |
|
Mangum recorded a
season-best distance of 3006.25", placing third, in the shot
at the Bridgewater State Invitational on Apr. 13. |

Freshman co-captain Katherine
McCalligett (Warwick, RI) was named the teams MVP. McCalligett
placed 12th in the 400 meters and 22nd in the
200 meters with times of 1:02.31 and 27:08 at the ECAC Div. III
Championships. |

McCalligett earned All-New
England honors in both the 200 and 400 meters at the New England Div.
III Championships. She placed seventh in the 200 meters with a time of
27.13 and eighth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.45, matching
her season-best time. |
|
She earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in both the 200 meters and 400 meters,
placing first in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 1:00.45 and
third in the 200 meters with a time of 27.32, at the Alliance
Championships. |

McCalligett placed first in
the 200 meters with a season-best time of 26.87 at the RIC
Invitational on Apr. 6. |
