Rhode Island College Men’s Outdoor Track Update #5

Providence, RI--Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team competed at the 2003 Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by RIC on Sunday, Apr. 27. The Anchormen placed fourth (ten teams) with a score of 88.50. Westfield State was the Alliance Champion with a total score of 169. RIC placed second among Little East Conference institutions with a conference score of 117. Eastern Connecticut was the LEC Champion with a conference score of 199.

Freshman Manny Karngar (Providence, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 800 meters, placing first with a time of 1:55.85 and as part of the 4 x 100 meter relay team, which placed third with a time of 44.65.

Senior Tim Rudd (Warwick, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 800 meters, placing second with a time of 1:56.44, as well as the 4 x 400 meter relay, which placed first with a time of 3:28.26.

Sophomore Joe Parenteau (Smithfield, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in both the 800 and 1,500 meters, as well as the 4 x 400 meter relay. He placed fifth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:05.84, fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.84 and first as part of the 4 x 400 meter relay team with a time of 3:28.26.

Senior Chris Puleo (Barrington, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 200 and 400 meters, as well as the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relays. He placed first overall in the 400 meters with a time of 48.83, third in the 200 meters with a time of 22.49 and first as part of the 4 x 400 meter relay team with a time of 3:28.26. He placed third as part of the 4 x 100 relay with a time of 44.65.

Junior Charles Kuti (Providence, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 100 meters, the long jump and the 4 x 100 meter relay. Kuti placed eighth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.57, eighth in the long jump with a leap of 19’07.50” and third as part of the 4 x 100 relay with a time of 44.65. He also placed ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.68.

Junior Michael Basilico (Johnston, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 10,000 meters, placing sixth with a time of 35:25.42.

Sophomore Chris Fernandes (Cumberland, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 400 meter hurdles, as well as the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relay teams. He placed fifth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.50. The 4 x 100 meter relay team placed third with a time of 44.65 and the 4 x 400 meter relay team placed first with a time of 3:28.26.

Senior Joe Padykula (Seekonk, MA) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the discus and hammer, placing fifth in the discus at 119’05.00” and seventh in the hammer at 134’07.00”.

Freshman Nick Palazzo (Providence, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the hammer, placing second with a throw of 153’08.00”.

Freshman Richard Palazzo (Providence, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the hammer, placing third with a throw of 148’07.00”.

Freshman Nick Heufelder (Smithfield, RI) placed 17th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.67. He also placed 14th in the long jump and 11th in the triple jump with leaps of 17’07.00” and 38’00.75” respectively.

Senior Brian Carney (Barrington, RI) placed 26th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.48.

Senior Rob Wahnon (Framingham, MA) placed 16th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.09.

Sophomore Marc Piette (Woonsocket, RI) placed tenth in the shot with a throw of 37’07.25” and ninth in the discus at 102’11.00”.

In upcoming action, RIC will compete at the New England Division III Championships, hosted by Bates, on Saturday, May 3.
