RIC Men’s Outdoor Tracksters Qualify for New England Championships

Providence, RI—Eight members of the Rhode Island College men’s outdoor track and field team have qualified for the 2003 Div. III New England Championships, which will be held at Bates College on Saturday, May 3.

Senior Tim Rudd (Warwick, RI) has qualified in the 800 meters and as part of the 4 x 400 meter relay team. Rudd earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 800 meters, placing second with a time of 1:56.44, as well as the 4 x 400 meter relay, which placed first with a time of 3:28.26 at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by RIC, on Sunday, Apr. 27.

Sophomore Joe Parenteau (Smithfield, RI) has qualified in the 800 and 1,500 meters, and as part of the 4 x 400 relay team. Parenteau earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 800 and 1,500 meters, as well as the 4 x 400 meter relay at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by RIC, on Sunday, Apr. 27. He placed fifth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:05.84, fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.84 and first as part of the 4 x 400 meter relay team with a time of 3:28.26.

Senior Chris Puleo (Barrington, RI) has qualified in the 400 meters, as well as part of the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relay teams. Puleo earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 200 and 400 meters, as well as the 4 x 400 meter relay at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by RIC, on Sunday, Apr. 27. He placed first overall in the 400 meters with a time of 48.83, third in the 200 meters with a time of 22.49 and first as part of the 4 x 400 meter relay team with a time of 3:28.26. The 4 x 100 meter relay team placed third with a time of 44.65

Sophomore Chris Fernandes (Cumberland, RI) has qualified in the 400 meter hurdles, and as part of the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relay teams. Fernandes earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 400 meter hurdles, as well as the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relay teams at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by RIC, on Sunday, Apr. 27.  He placed fifth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.50. The 4 x 100 meter relay team placed third with a time of 44.65 and the 4 x 400 meter relay team placed first with a time of 3:28.26.

Junior Charles Kuti (Providence, RI) has qualified in the long jump. Kuti earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 100 meters, the long jump and the 4 x 100 meter relay at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by RIC, on Sunday, Apr. 27.  Kuti placed eighth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.57, eighth in the long jump with a leap of 19’07.50” and third as part of the 4 x 100 relay with a time of 44.65. He also placed ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.68.

Freshman Nick Palazzo (Providence, RI) has qualified in the hammer. Palazzo earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the hammer, placing second with a throw of 153’08.00” at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by RIC, on Sunday, Apr. 27.

Freshman Richard Palazzo (Providence, RI) has qualified in the hammer. Palazzo earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the hammer, placing third with a throw of 148’07.00” at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by RIC, on Sunday, Apr. 27.

Sophomore Marc Piette (Woonsocket, RI) has qualified in the hammer. Piette placed tenth in the shot with a throw of 37’07.25” and ninth in the discus at 102’11.00” at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by RIC, on Sunday, Apr. 27.

Freshman Manny Karngar (Providence, RI) has qualified as part of the 4 x 100 meter relay team, but cannot compete due to a foot injury. Karngar earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 800 meters, placing first with a time of 1:55.85 and as part of the 4 x 100 meter relay team, which placed third with a time of 44.65 at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by RIC, on Sunday, Apr. 27.
