2002 Rhode Island College
Men’s Cross Country Summary |
|
Providence, RI-- Head
Coach Kevin Jackson’s team closed out the 2002 season with
a 19th place (35 teams) finish at the New England Div.
III Championships on Nov. 16. RIC placed 16th (42 teams)
at the ECAC Div. III Championships on Nov. 9. The Anchormen placed
eighth (ten teams) at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance
Championships on Nov. 2. RIC placed fifth (five teams) among Little
East institutions. |

Senior Brian Carney
(Barrington, RI) finished 244th at the ECAC
championships with a time of 41:54. He placed 107th at
the Alliance Championships with a career-best time of 37:18. Carney
finished 295th at the James Early Invitational with a
time of 38:27. He finished 96th at the Roger Williams
Invitational with a time of 40:53. Carney placed 78th at
the Tri-State Invitational with a time of 46:05. |

As a junior in 2000, he
placed 87th with a season-best time of 38:30 at the
Alliance Championships. Carney placed 206th with a time
of 40:01 at the James Early Invitational. He placed 73rd with a time
of 41:10 at the Bryant Invitational. He placed 100th with
a time of 39:49 at the Tri-State Championships. He placed 70th
with a time of 42:46 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational. Carney placed 40th
with a time of 46:37 at the CCRI Invitational. |

As a sophomore in 1999,
Carney placed 252nd with a time of 40:22 at the New
England Div. III Championships. He placed 240th with a
time of 42:03 at the ECAC Div. III Championships. Carney placed 106th
overall, and 57th in the Little East, with a time of
40:03 at the Alliance Championships. He placed 19th with
a time of 47:12 at the Eastern Nazarene Invitational. |

As a freshman in 1998,
Carney placed 218th at the New England Championships with a
season-best time of 38:50. He placed 243rd with a time of 41:35 at
the ECAC Championships. Carney placed 95th at the Little East/MASCAC
Alliance Championships with a time of 39:43. He placed 108th with a
time of 47:54 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational. |

He is a justice studies
major and a 1999 graduate of Barrington High School. |

Senior Mike Daniels
(Warwick, RI) placed 151st at the New England Div.
III Championships with a career-best time of 28:16. Daniels placed
123rd at the ECAC Div. III Championships with a time of
30:10. He placed 56th at the Alliance Championships with
a time of 29:16. Daniels placed 115th at the James Early
Invitational with a time of 28:41. He placed 22nd at the
Roger Williams Invitational with a time of 30:23. Daniels placed 25th
at the Tri-State Invitational with a time of 31:14. He placed 121st
at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational with a time of 29:05. |

As a junior in 2001, he
placed 166th with a time of 28:56 at the New England Div.
III Championships. Daniels placed 103rd with a
time of 29:44 at the ECAC Div. III Championships. He placed 55th
with a time of 28:54 at the Alliance Championships. He placed fifth
with a time of 31:54 at the Eastern Nazarene Invitational. He placed
28th with a time of 31:28 at the Bryant Invitational. He placed 40th
with a time of 30:14 at the Tri-State Championships. He placed 32nd
with a time of 30:34 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational. Daniels placed
120th with a season-best time of 28:36 at the UMASS-Dartmouth
Invitational. |

Prior to coming to RIC,
Daniels competed for the Community College of Rhode Island. He is a
special education major and a 1997 graduate of Veterans High School. |

Junior Mike Basilico
(Johnston, RI) placed 154th with a time of 28:21 at
the New England Div. III Championships. Basilico placed 101st at
the ECAC Div. III Championships with a time of 29:33. He placed 62nd
at the Alliance Championships with a time of 29:41. Basilico placed
118th at the James Early Invitational with a time of
28:45. He placed 11th at the Roger Williams Invitational
with a time of 29:30. Basilico placed 13th at the
Tri-State Invitational with a time of 30:09. He placed 83rd
with a season-best time of 28:03 at the UMass-Dartmouth
Invitational. |

Junior Misha Knuettel
(Warwick, RI) earned All-New England honors placing 29th
at the New England Div. III Championships with a time of 25:42. It
was the fifth fastest time in RIC history. Knuettel earned
All-Alliance honors placing 10th at the Alliance
Championships with a time of 27:00. Knuettel placed ninth at the
James Early Invitational with a time of 25:44, the sixth fastest
time in RIC history. He placed first at the Roger Williams
Invitational with a time of 27:59 Knuettel placed first at the
Tri-State Invitational with a time of 27:42. He finished 54th
with a time of 27:11. Knuettel owns four of the top 25 times in RIC
history. |

Sophomore Matt Faria
(Seekonk, MA) placed 216th at the New England Div.
III Championships with a time of 30:18. Faria placed 136th
at the ECAC Div. III Championships with a time of 30:30. He placed
64th at the Alliance Championships with a season-best
time of 29:45. Faria placed 181st at the James Early
Invitational with a time of 30:04. He placed 33rd at the
Roger Williams Invitational with a time of 31:45. Faria placed 31st
at the Tri-State Invitational with a time of 32:07. He placed 184th
with a time of 31:48 at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational. |

Sophomore Joe
Parenteau (Smithfield, RI) finished 60th with a
career-best time of 26:22 at the New England Div. III Championships.
It was the 11th fastest time in RIC history. Parenteau
placed 25th at the ECAC championships with a time of
28:02. He placed 24th at the Alliance Championships with
a time of 27:47. Parenteau placed 50th at the James Early
Invitational with a time of 27:18. He placed fifth at the Roger
Williams Invitational with a time of 28:41. Parenteau placed fifth
at the Tri-State Invitational with a time of 29:03. He placed 96th
with a time of 28:22 at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational. Parenteau
owns five of the top 50 times in RIC history. |

Precourt (Woonsocket, RI) placed 227th at the New
England Div. III Championships with a season-best time of 30:53.
Precourt placed 199th at the ECAC Div. III
Championships with a time of 32:47. He placed 94th at the
Alliance Championships with a time of 31:53. He placed 54th
at the Roger Williams Invitational with a time of 32:52. Precourt
placed 65th at the Tri-State Invitational with a time of
35:38. He placed 201st with a time of 32:59 at the UMass-Dartmouth
Invitational. |

Freshman Derek Freitas
(North Kingstown, RI) placed 97th at the Alliance
Championships with a time of 32:08. Freitas placed 236th
at the James Early Invitational with a season-best time of 31:41. He
placed 62nd at the Roger Williams Invitational with a
time of 33:59. Freitas placed 59th at the Tri-State
Invitational with a time of 34:16. He finished 206th with
a time of 33:49 at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational. |

Karngar (Providence, RI) placed 146th at the New
England Div. III Championships with a time of 28:01. Karngar placed
33rd at the ECAC Div. III Championships with a time of
28:08. He placed 54th at the Alliance Championships with
a time of 29:13. Karngar placed 24th with a season-best
time of 26:29 at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational. It was the 12th
fastest time in RIC history. |
