Joe Parenteau
to Captain
Rhode Island College Men’s Cross Country |

Providence, RI— Rhode
Island College junior Joe Parenteau (Smithfield, RI) will
captain the men’s cross country team for the 2003 season. |
|
|
|
Parenteau finished the
highest among RIC runners, placing 26th out of 89
competitors with a time of 28:39.56 , at Tufts University’s
Hayseed Classic on Saturday, Sept. 6, the squad’s opening meet of
the 2003 season. |
|
|
|
As a sophomore in 2002,
he finished 60th with a career-best time of 26:22 at the
New England Div. III Championships. It was the 11th
fastest time in RIC history. Parenteau placed 25th at the
ECAC championships with a time of 28:02. He placed 24th
at the Alliance Championships with a time of 27:47. Parenteau placed
50th at the James Early Invitational with a time of
27:18. He placed fifth at the Roger Williams Invitational with a
time of 28:41. Parenteau placed fifth at the Tri-State Invitational
with a time of 29:03. He placed 96th with a time of 28:22
at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational. Parenteau owns five of the top
50 times in RIC history. |

He is a physical
education major and a 2001 graduate of Smithfield High School. |

Head Coach Kevin
Jackson’s team placed sixth out of nine teams at the Hayseed
Classic. In upcoming action, the Anchormen will compete at the Ocean
State Invitational, hosted by CCRI, on Thursday, Sept. 11. |
