Ray
Smith Named Rhode Island College
Assistant Men’s & Women’s
Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Coach |
|
|
Providence, RI—Rhode Island
College has named Ray Smith
as an assistant men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field
coach. Smith will assist head coach Kevin Jackson
with all phases of RIC’s men’s and
women’s indoor and outdoor track and field programs including
recruiting, scouting, administering practices and meet coaching.

Since 2000,
Smith has served as a volunteer assistant coach with the Providence
Cobras, a non-profit, inner city, youth track club. |
|
|
|
He graduated from Wheaton
College in 2002 where he was a four-year Merit-Based Scholar and a
three-year Community Scholar. On the track at Wheaton, he was the NCAA
Div. III long jump champion in 2001. Smith was a
two-time NCAA Div. III All-American in the long jump as a sophomore
and junior.
He earned All-New England and All-ECAC honors in the long jump, triple jump, as well
as the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400, in each of his four years at Wheaton. |

He was the team’s captain his
senior year and was a NCAA Div. III qualifier five times in outdoor
events and once in an indoor event. Smith is also a certified USATF
Track and Field Official. |
|
|
|
Smith is currently taking
graduate classes in public administration at the University of Rhode
Island. He resides in East Providence, Rhode Island. |
