ANCHORMEN AND COLONIALS SPLIT TWO |

Providence,
RI—Rhode Island College and
Western Connecticut split a doubleheader in collegiate baseball
action. The Colonials are now 13-11 overall and 5-2 in the Little East
Conference, while RIC is 10-10 overall and 1-6 in the LEC. |

Western
Connecticut took game one, 10-3, as junior pitcher Lou Parise
(North Haven, CT) struck out three and allowed only one
earned run in 6.2 innings to improve his record to 3-0 on the year.
The Colonials got home runs from junior Josh Coleman (Terryville,
CT) and junior T.J. Tarantino (Rutherford, NJ) in the win.
Coleman went 2-2 with two runs and two RBI. Junior shortstop Chris
Kaplan (Stratford, CT) went 1-3 with one run scored, a double and
three RBI. |

|
RIC bounced
back in game two to win, 14-7, in decisive fashion. The Anchormen
pounded out 17 hits to support winning pitcher, junior Jim Milano
(Johnston, RI). Milano struck out eight in eight innings to
improve to 2-3 on the season. Sophomore right fielder Mike Naylor
(Warwick, RI) went 4-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. Senior
designated hitter Eric Gibree (Bristol, RI) went 3-4 with two
runs scored and three RBI. WCSU senior second baseman Jim Dunn (New
Fairfield, CT) homered twice and sophomore starting pitcher
John Marturano (Berlin, CT) took the loss (2-3). |

In upcoming
action, RIC will play a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at home
against Thomas College. The first pitch is scheduled for noon. |
