RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE AND THOMAS SPLIT
DH |
|
Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College and Thomas College split a doubleheader in collegiate
baseball action on Sunday afternoon. Thomas took game one, 10-2, and
the Anchormen won the second contest, 6-5. RIC's record is now 11-11,
while the Terriers are 7-16 on the season. |
|
|
|
Thomas plated five runs in the first
two innings of game one and never looked back. Senior pitcher Jevon
Owens (Clinton, ME) went the distance, striking out five and
allowing no earned runs over seven innings of work to improve his
record to 2-3. Six Terriers had multiple hit games, led by freshman
designated hitter Brandon Connors (Rochester, NH) who went 3-4
with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Freshman third baseman
Jim Pierce (Dorchester, MA) went 2-5 with two runs scored, three
RBI and a home run. RIC junior starting pitcher Matt Brannon
(Cranston, RI) took the loss, falling to 2-4 on the year. |

|
Things looked bleak for the Anchormen
in game two as they trailed 5-3 heading into the last of the sixth.
Junior centerfielder Glenn Dusablon's (North Smithfield, RI)
RBI single capped a three-run comeback to give RIC the win. Dusablon
went 2-4 with two RBI and made a diving, over-the-shoulder catch for
the last out to preserve the win. Sophomore pitcher Wade Briggs
(Woonsocket, RI) picked up his second win (2-1) of the season in
relief of starter freshman Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT). |
