CORSAIRS HOLD OFF ANCHORMEN TO WIN,
13-11 |

Providence,
RI—UMass-Dartmouth held off a
late-game rally by host Rhode Island College to win, 13-11, in
collegiate baseball action. The Corsairs improve to 15-10 overall and
5-3 in the Little East Conference, while the loss drops the Anchormen
to 11-12 overall and 1-7 in the LEC. |

UMD exploded
for seven runs in the seventh inning to take a commanding 11-4 lead.
RIC came back with six in the eighth and one in the ninth before
succumbing to the Corsairs. UMD was led by senior second baseman
Geoff Nettleton (Marlboro, MA) who went 3-5 with four runs scored,
four RBI and two home runs. Junior shortstop John Del Duca
(Methuen, MA) went 5-6 with two runs scored and an RBI. Sophomore
relief pitcher Frank Cronin (Rockland, MA) picked up his second
win (2-1) of the season and sophomore Eric Griswold (Taunton, MA)
earned the save. |

RIC sophomore
center fielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) went 4-5 with two runs
scored, two RBI and two doubles. Junior right fielder Brandon White
(Foster, RI) went 2-4 with one run scored, three RBI and belted a
home run. Junior starting pitcher Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield,
RI) took the loss (2-1). |
