Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College swept a doubleheader from Plymouth State University in
collegiate baseball action. RIC improves to 17-14 overall and 4-8 in
the Little East Conference. The Anchormen have won six straight games.
The losses drop PSU to 5-26 overall and 1-11 in the LEC. |

It was Senior Day for RIC senior first
baseman/DH Eric Gibree (Bristol, RI) who went 8-14 with seven
runs scored, seven RBI, three doubles and a home run in his final
regular season home game. |
|
|
|
RIC battered the Panthers' pitching
staff in game one, hammering out 31 hits on its way to a 28-17
victory. The Anchormen clouted seven home runs in the first game with
junior left fielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA) and junior
third baseman Brian Trupiano (Franklin, MA) each bashing two
dingers. Trupiano's two bombs were the first of his career. Ten
different RIC players notched at least one hit and eight players had
two or more. Higgins went 6-6 with five runs scored, four RBI and a
double to go along with his two homers. Trupiano went 4-5 with four
runs scored and four RBI. Sophomore pitcher Bruce Taraska (Exeter,
RI) picked up his second win (2-0) of the season in relief of
starting pitcher junior Jeremy Edwards (Exeter, RI). PSC senior
starting pitcher Mike Bradbury (Chatham, MA) took the loss
(1-6). |

RIC didn't let up in game two, winning
32-9. Ten players registered at least one hit and seven hit two or
more. RIC hit five home runs in the win. Sophomore shortstop Ray De
La Cruz (Pawtucket, RI) went 4-7 with four runs scored, four RBI,
a double and a home run. De La Cruz also homered twice in game one.
Sophomore center fielder Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI)
went 4-5 with five runs scored, five RBI and a homer. Higgins
continued his torrid hitting pace, going 4-7 with three runs scored,
three RBI, a double and a triple. Freshman catcher Tim Henault
(East Greenwich, RI) clouted his first career home run, a grand
slam, in the first inning. Junior starting pitcher Jim Milano
(Johnston, RI) earned the win (4-3) with eight strikeouts in six
innings of work. PSU senior starting pitcher Josh Forest
(Manchester, NH) took the loss (1-8). |

RIC scored 59 runs and collected 57
hits in the doubleheader. |

|
|
In upcoming
action, RIC will play at Johnson & Wales University on Monday, May 3
at 3:30 p.m. |
